Hello, everyone!!! Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!!

I was just listening to the 2-CD set "Canaan Revisited." When I came to the song "Statue of Liberty" by the Cathedrals, it sounded like Danny Funderburk was singing tenor.

My question is..didn't the Cathedrals record for Riversong/Benson Records when Danny was with the group?

The Cathedrals did two versions of that song, their original version in 1974 and the version with Danny Funderburk on Especially For You in 1985. Yes, I believe the album was originally released by Riversong / Heartwarming.

Wes Burke over at the Burke's Brainwork blog posted on this:

My take: Canaan probably meant to put the original ca. 1974 version on. They may have put the Funderburk version on by mistake, perhaps not even realizing that it was a song that they (possibly) didn't own the rights to.

The Benson label (which includes Riversong/Heartwarming) was shut down in January 2001. The music publishing division seems to be currently owned by Universal Music Publishing Group (acquired from BMG music).

However, I think back in '01 I may have heard something about Word taking over the old Benson masters. If so, then they would own / have access to the song.
