Very telling educational site about the brutal effects meth has on its users. Click here

Warning: Some material may be too graphic for some people...

Gross.

Thanks for the link. That's pretty intense. Meth is becoming quite the drug of choice for a lot of people nowadays.

My beautiful niece was addicted to meth for nearly a year.

It is absolutely horrible what it does to the individual and to their families.
Her once flawless skin is now pockmarked with scars from "meth sores" that she tried to convince us were from spider bites.

She lost her children to her mother (my sister) during that time and has now been clean for over 5 years, but the physical damage to her and the emotional damage to her children still remain as testimony to what a destructive demon this is.

We have a recovery ministry in our church, and it is truly overwhelming to see folks my age (33) who look older than my parents. Meth is simply horrific - not only for the user, but to everyone around them (and don't get me started on meth labs...).

There's an awesome poem/song that describes the destruction that is within this catastrophic force.

My Name is Meth

And it's making its way eastward.

Pharm companies have fought hard to keep their products (the ones used to make meth) available over the counter, even though the evidence is clear that the majority of the massive amounts of those drugs sold are not being used for colds and allergies.

I just read two books on the subject, one by an addict -- "Tweak" by Nic Sheff, and the other by his father "Beautiful Boy" by David Sheff.

Addictions like this are so insidious, a lot of addicts really want out but have a hard time doing it.

Thanks for the link. I have an 11 year old daughter who I'm trying to educate about the danger of drugs and smoking. Graphic pictures says so much more than any lecture I could give her. I am making sure that before she's exposed to drugs, that she would be so disgusted with it that she won't be tempted.

Unfortunately, you haven't even begun to see the half of it. The link comes from the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office in Portland, Oregon, where meth (crank, tweak, speed, go-fast, etc) is extremely cheap, easy to make and is daily ravaging families. We have personally seen the destruction that it causes its victims and those around them, whether it is the user themselves, their family or the person who is victimized as the user seeks money by stealing from or assaulting folks. It has become so bad that users have been so brazen as to steal lamp posts from alongside the freeway in remote areas to take to metal recycling plants; the worst case that I am personally, first-hand aware of, is an incident where tweakers stole an entire bridge from the waterline up from a service road in the Molalla Forest...when we would hike or ride in the forest, it wasn't abnormal to come across the site of a clandestine lab (we would mark it with GPS and report it to the Clackamas County Sheriff for processing)...
The manufacturing of this murderous drug also leaves a swath of destruction - houses which are used in the manufacture have to be torn down and the remains abated, much like asbestos. In Keizer, Oregon, there are two homes which are fenced off with chain link and razor wire and are no longer habitable but since it is so expensive for the abatement process, the city and the owners cannot afford to have them torn down. The chemicals linger and create hazards for other tenants for years to come.

One of our very close friends who was addicted to meth, after having lost his home twice (the second was an intense fire which destroyed a 2000 sf home in less than 10 minutes because of the chemicals), his job, his wife and all of his possessions (he was eventually reduced to living in a tent for a year down by the river...), told us that "meth is truly Satan". It causes hallucinations, paranoia, sores (like the pictures show), emotional instability, psychosis, violent behaviors and severe physical problems such as liver failure, heart damage, lung damage and necrosis of internal organs...fun stuff, huh?

He, however, is one of the lucky ones - he has been clean for almost eight years now. Others, on the other hand are not - the recovery rate is not good, as better than 8 out of 10 will go back to using; make no mistake, this drug, when it gets its hooks into you will literally possess, destroy, and devour you.

So be aware - what has happened in the Midwest so far is only the tip of the iceberg....may God help and bless those who are in the claws of this insidious chemical...

Here is a list of the shocking ingredients Meth is made from:

Lye
Ether
Iodine
Draino
Ephedrine
Brake Fluid
Lighter Fluid
Cold remedies
Lithium Metals
Hydrachloride
Hydriotic Acid
Red Phosphorus
Anyhdrous Ammonia

Knowing that they are ingesting substances like this, is it any wonder these people look like this?

Why all the sores?

This is a sincere question; I know absolutely nothing about this topic.

I'm guessing it's an internal breakdown from all the poisons in one's body?

Or is it a combination of that and people scratching themselves and then making the sores worse?

These pictures really say so much - thanks for sharing them! It is sad that meth has become such a drug of choice. Even the small town that I live in is being polluted by this drug and its horrible impact. I was talking with a county constable last night - he shared that about 70% of traffic stops in our county end up as drug busts as well - and most of it is meth. I personally can't understand why anyone would want to put the pollutants mentioned in the post above into their bodies... I was aware of ephedrine and anhydrous ammonia (used for fertilizer in my part of the world) being used to manufacture meth - but the other ones I was not aware of. Really scary stuff!

Yes and yes. Users begin to see things on their skin (real or imagined) - what you or I would pick at, say a pimple or blackhead, becomes an obsession and instead just simply scrapping or popping the blackhead/zit, they begin to dig and dig and dig and dig at it. Users often say they feel as if they have bugs under their skin so they dig at them to get them out. The toxic nature of the drug does deteriorate tissues (if you get next to someone who's been on a "run", up for several days at a time, they will smell chemically and metallic, almost like burned metal, as the chemicals leach out of their pores...). The rotting teeth that many of them have come from the lack of dental hygiene, the toxins and the "rocking" of the jaw from side to side while gritting/clenching their teeth whcih causes the teeth to crack and erode. The chemicals themselves deteriorate the enamel of the teeth, leading to more damage. Finally, since users do not eat or sleep, their own bodies begin to "harvest" nutrition from their own tissues to keep them alive - calcium comes out of bones and teeth, fat from organs (including the brain), and so on which results in the "death-camp survivor" wasted look of their bodies...

BTW and FYI, we can thank the Germans for the creation of this chemical - the Blitzkrieg was fueled by methamphetamines (of which the Nazi high command were heavy users....) so that the soldiers would remain alert and aggressive. The US military also has been known to use "go-pills" to keep pilots alert - during Gulf War I and II, some instances of friendly fire which occurred due to pilots being "up" too long on "go-pills" to make as many sorties as possible...after so many hours of being "up", they would usually be administered a sedative so they could get adequate rest...

Dont I know it!! Sadly our sherriff is part of the problem. The high school kids go and party at his house since he is more then happy to provide the drugs and booze. I used to think it was just rumors that people started. You know things spread in a small town. Well I was at the retired sherriffs house and he confirmed it all. He does not spread rumors unless he knows it to be true. I guess people are complaining to the State Att. Generals office but they are too scared to leave their names small town justice being what it is. I cant count the number of times people told me if I ever need the police to make sure I call the state patrol not the sheriffs office.
