There was probably a thread about this, but I'm always behind when it comes to movies. We just watched this film and I thought it was pretty good--kind of "I Am Legend"-like. I really liked the effects, or lack thereof. I wish there had been more background about where the virus came from. Or did I miss it?

There is a previous film called 28 Days Later that shows where it came from. It is worth watching. IMO, it was better than the sequel. While I liked the idea of fast moving zombies, as opposed to the shambling, slow ones that are in most movies, there were some parts that were just plain dumb. ---SPOILER ALERT--- I would think they might have had better sucurity on the containment area where they kept the infected woman. I would have also thought the the military could have thought up a better contingency plan for an infection instead of locking everyone in a centrally located room.

You didn't see the first one? I liked them both, but I think I prefer the first one. The sequel was definately more...American. More shoot 'em up and such. I remember going to see the first one, in the theatre, because at one point I realized I was literally, physically, on the edge of my seat! The other thread wasn't much. Danny Boyle's a name I'd see pretty much anything by - don't know why he didn't do the sequel.

The first one is good, but I hated the ending. They stuck a "Happy" ending on after the original tested poorly, not that I have anything against happy endings, but this one just seemed implausible. Otherwise, I think I liked the second one better. The first one tried to turn into a "social commentary" zombie movie ala Romero about half way through, but I thought it was kind of been there done that. The second one had absolutely no pretensions about what it was, and was just straight action all the way through. It was more fun than the first.
