This is horrible!
Before anything else, let me clarify my stance on illegal immigration: it is a huge problem, and our borders must be avidly guarded. I am all for the deportation of all illegal aliens. ALL. I am also against birthright citizenship.
Having said all this, it's amazing that these 3 boys were from apparently good backgrounds. Did they think it was ok to gang up on a single person and kick him in the head while he was on the ground?
I would feel the same if the perpetrators were black, Asian, Native American, and/or if the victim had not been a minority.

Sounds like alcohol helped bring out alot feelings that otherwise would have gone unnoticed.
Violent crimes usually involve one of or a combination of the following and more often than not violent crimes woulsd have not been committed unless these things had been involved.
1. Drugs
2. Alcohol
3. Money
4. Sex (having it,not having it, wanting it)
5. Greed

I'm not saying prejudice was not involved,but the age of the defendants and alcohol fueled emotions must be taken into consideration. Either way it is sad for the Rameriz family, and if found guilty they must pay for their mistakes.

Shenadoah, Pennsylvania is a once thriving coal mining town, which like all Pennsylvania coal mining towns, has known its share of ethnic violence through the centuries.
Shenadoah and other parts of Luzerne, Carbon, and Schuykill countries were once terrorized by Irish and other ethnically organized gangs, the most notoroius of which being the The Molly McGuires.
As other ethnic groups came to the region in the late 1800s and early 1900s to work the mines, tensions and violence continued as Slavs, Poles, Ukranians, Russians, Welsh, Irish and others vied for jobs and political clout in the new world.
Violence wasn't lost in clashes between Labor Union strikers and Mine Owners through the centuries with hundreds of lives lost.
So tragedies like this aren't new to the region.
When the deep anthracite mines largely closed in the 1960s, the decendants of typically white Eastern Europeans with their roots established stayed in these largely impoverished isolated mining towns eeking out their existence in small factories, service jobs, and the like.
Recently, however, low rents have attracted illegal workers from larger urban areas, mostly Hispanic, into the small boroughs and townships of this once thriving coal region, and these illegals now threaten the jobs, livelihood and existence of those who preceded them.
Illegals work for often less than half what local workers expect to receive as a fair wage, with no taxes paid or benefits received... so the few jobs available in places like Shenandoah, Hazelton, Mahanoy City, Tamaqua, and elsewhere grow more and more scarce..
This creates a HUGE problem in the region where some, like Hazelton Mayor Lou Barletta (Now running as the Republican Candidate for Congress in the District), have tried to address by passing local legislation banning landlords from renting to illegals.
Although that law was eventually overturned in court, (with the help of the ACLU) it rightly reflects the sentiment of most 'natives' in the region.
That said, and while it is terrible that this fellow Hispanic Christian was beaten to death by local thugs, he did not belong in this country in the first place, and his criminal presence unfortunatley aroused the passions of those whose livelihoods have been threatened by him and those like him.
Drunken street fight?
Hate crime?
No one will ever really know.
The FACTS are, however:
-- that this victim would likely still be alive if he had not selfishly and illegally entered the US, not selfishly entered into an out-of-wedlock relationship and fathered two children with his American born girlfriend...nor selfishly gained illegal employment at the expense of legitimate American workers...all in the hopes he could get what he wanted without having to obey the Law like a normal American Citizen.
--and these young men would not be facing their crimes had they only obeyed the very same Law...which grants even illegals due process....and not selfishly made themselves judge, jury and executioners regarding matters somewhat trivial.
Th 'sin' here rests on both sides equally....with the victim and victimizers equally to blame.
No 'innocents' here.
Just lawbreakers all.
