I have been having new life experiences thrown at me left and right the last year or so, and now I have another one... God has opened a door (through my previous ministry) to talk to a gentleman whose wife died of cancer (last month) after over 40 years of marriage. He wants to talk about what I did, people we knew in common, etc. But, on the phone, he simply sounded lonely, and when I apologized for the timing of the call, he said 'I do go to bed earlier now that my wife is gone, but I don't sleep very well'. I want to get together with him (he wants to), and be a blessing, but I am a little concerned about somehow causing him pain. Any suggestions?

Talk freely about His wife until tells you not to (Most people want to talk about their lost loved ones, It's healing) Encourage Him to grieve and to live.

Wow. What an opportunity to witness about God's love. I'm listening to a worship cd and the lyric that jumps out at me is "tell me about your beloved." So ask him to tell you about his beloved. It is a question nobody has probably asked him for a while and you will surely get an earful.

Kuku; Not going would be worse than going, even if you ended up saying stuff that hurt him. Honestly, I doubt you are the kind of person who would say the types of things that would hurt...you've been through too much yourself to throw cliches trite sayings around. I agree with John_O and LadyofFaith: as a widow myself, I would appreciate having someone to talk to, a safe place to say all the things I need to say. God bless you. shallbe

As a widow I enjoy talking about my life with my husband and family. My suggestion is to be sincere about wanting to know about their spouses and their lives together.
