Tell me if this seems right: Ecclesiates is the book of the point to life, the purpose of life, the reason for living, etc. Eccl 12:13- After everything is done and said, The conclusion is this- fear God and keep His commands, for that is the whole duty of man. (paraphrase) Assuming fearing God means you'll keep His commandments, and the two main commands, Love God with everything, and love your neighboor as yourself, then isn't the whole point of life to love others? Love encompasses everythingelse (1 Cor 13), and is repeatedly said to fulfill the law, which Jesus Hismelf said He did. So, is the point of life agape love (since love automatically looks out for everyone's best interests)? Never sin, Always Agape love, Always glorify Him 100%, always do His will- all four of these seem to me to just be saying the same thing- hence if it is most accuratley and most often described as loving others (God and humans [were angels fit in I don't know]), then wouldn't "Agape Love" (which automatically looks out for everyone's best interests) be the point to life?

Agape love is God's love. We are not capable of Agape love. Which means the point of this life is Christ, and Him loving in and through you. "For me to live is Christ" As you abide in Him you bear fruit. That is singular "fruit". That fruit has several aspects to it, one of which is Agape Love. The other aspects of fruit are not too bad either...

Agape love is God's love. We are not capable of Agape love. Hard part about this: Be perfect as your heveanly father is perfect (gospels somewere) Go and sin no more (John 8 or 9:end) Be holy, as I Am holy (Peter epistles somewere). Why are we called to this if we can't achieve it? I'm very much against entire sanctification, so I'm still confused about all this. Thx for the reply!

1 Corinthians 13: 1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing. 4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8 Love never fails...

They are not separate. It is singular. You can't be holy, that is the point. Only God is holy. When God says "be holy as I am holy", the conscious persons reaction to that is that we are doomed, it buries us. And it points us to our need for a Savior. This is why the Christian life IS Christ. He is the Holy One. We are holy because He is Holy. Because we, as Christians, are indwelt by the Holy One. Peace

So, does anyone think that I'm correct, that Agape love is the point to life? URForgiven- I might very soon make a thread asking about spiritual gifts- I accidentally put down "fruit", I meant spiritual gifts.

So, does anyone think that I'm correct, that Agape love is the point to life? Why are you asking us? What does the Word say? Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. 2This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. This love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, 4for everyone born of God overcomes the world. - 1 John 5:1-4

Well John says that God is love. Notice he did not say he was joy, or peace, or self-control etc., rather, these things result from loving. If this be the case as it seems to be, then I would agree with you.

Your're right, the Bible speaks only of producing Fruit. But I was spekaing of the Fruits of the Spirit. So yes, there are plural fruits in that aspect at least. This post was just to edit what I said in my above post.

Yes, dear soul, I believe you are correct We are to love (agapeo) the Lord our God with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength...and we are to love our neighbors as ourselves... To be able to do that, however, we must first realize and believe the love (Agapeo) that He has demonstrated to us.... Blessings to you, dear soul, as you search

Although we can only get to Agape love through the spirit and even then we still struggle to do this perfectly -- after all, it is ALL about Christ -- but our striving to love better and more completely can't be a bad thing --let the Spirit lead and go for it.

ORIGINAL: beforHim So, does anyone think that I'm correct, that Agape love is the point to life? You are absolutely correct. "For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love." (Galatians 5:6) I see Paul contrasting the epitome of outward religiousity (circumcision) with the truth of what it really means to walk in faith. True faith comes out of a person in how they love. People with real faith 'love'. That's the measure of the faith that pleases God. I wish more of the Church would see the revelation you have seen. When I saw it I felt like I was 're-born again'. That's how profound it was to me. And it brought the peace and assurance of finally knowing God's will for my life. For a Church so desparate to discern the will of God for their lives, so many miss the simplicity of what God has ordained for each and every one of us. It cuts across all lines of distinction and division among us, yet we fail to meet each other at the most crucial of missions given to us without difference or exception and instead prefer interesting but mostly impractical doctrines and the wranglings of our denominational preferences. We have so much to encourage and build each other up into about this 'other-worldly' love so alien to this ugly world of selfishness. But we hardly even talk about it. You've seen a great light. It's a simple truth, but hang on because it will test every fiber of your being. That's why we need each other so much to encourage each other to take on the noble task of loving the same world Jesus gave His life for, and to do it with the joy and gladness He did. May God's strength be your's today and always.
