I have noticed this in a few threads. The pro and the con. Here is an article on the subject that references His Word on the subject. What do you think? quote:
There is ample evidence in the Bible, which I'd like to explore in a cursory way today, that all sin is NOT equal in God's eyes. It's not even going to be punished equally--just as rewards for the saints will be different (and this is the unpopular part): according to their deeds. On one hand, I think anyone can grasp this. Should an unrepentant liar who goes to hell be punished to the same degree as Hitler, who was responsible for the deaths of millions? What just judge would render that decision? God is impartial, completely holy, and both merciful and JUST. /quote]

I know that sis is sin, regardless of the level of consequences percieved. To look at this from the "punishment" end of the topic seems to be a trick of the enemy of God. Whether you are cast into dark hell or darker hell, and measuring how sinful our sin was by that standard, seems a bit silly to me. It is a justification of sorts: "my sin was not as bad as yours." Any sin, even one small "white" lie is enough to corrupt a soul to the point of rejection from God. That is why Jesus is needed. He is the One that took that rejection for us, our punishment for our sin. So, my answer is yes, all sin is the same (equal) to God.

What of Jesus' telling Pilate that his sin was less than those who handed Him over to Pilate?

Big horrible sin. Little barely a sin. Thing is they accomplish the exact same thing. All sin seperates you from God, permentently. You are seen as sinless before God as a saved person. However there are eternal consequences to our actions. We can by our actions here on earth... aquire treasures in heaven determine our leadership role in heaven Was Jesus blood atonement final? I believe so. He said, " It is finished" which if I remember correctly in the original language is the same saying when someone has paid a bill in FULL. The price for our sins, past present and future were paid on the cross. Repentence won't save you. Repentence comes from BEING saved. IF you are saved, you will repent, its not a choice a saved person can make. Its as built in as the Holy Spirit is indwellt in you. Forgiveness. Now this is a little more interesting. We will be forgiven the way we forgive others. This could be a judgement many will fail at. All of these things are not 100% clear. I am gald God is in charge and not us, in the judgement area....rememeber...David was said to have a heart after God's...and he commited some atrocious sins.

In short, what I believe is that all sins have the same result, and that is death. But not all sins are equally treated here on earth. Think of the Law God handed down to Moses. There were different punishments for different sins, according to the severity of the act. If all sins were identical in God's eyes, wouldn't the punishment be the same?

This is a mostly philosophical question, so we must make a few pointed observations and realize that this is mostly a philosophical discussion. Because God is infinitely good, anything "bad" is by necessity infinitely bad when compared to God. I believe Tozer said, "Because God is infinite, He is proportionately no bigger to the caterpiller than to the mightiest archangel." So any and every sin is committing an infinite offense against an infinitely holy being. HOWEVER, the Bible does make the case that some sins are "worse" than others (ie, Jesus and Pilate discussing the weight of Pilate's sin, there is one sin that is unpardonable, all sins a man commits are outside his body except that of the sexual). I think when all is said and done, we have to come to the conclusion that God alone is able to judge the "evilness" of sins and set the consequences accordingly. Adam

The short answer, is no. Some sins are worse than others. There are degrees of sin. Entertaining the thought of adultery is a sin, actually committing it is a worse sin. So in the law we see a death penalty for murder and adultery, but not so for failing to return lost goods. Every sin is rebellion and ungodliness however. For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. -2Pe 2:20

It depends on the point of reference. If you are talking to yourself - then all sins need to be equal because the bottom line is that you do not want to sin. For some folks such as myself it has been a long long road to getting free from sin. Two years before I got saved I went to rehab. The "f" bomb was in every sentence. That was the first thing I changed and frankly that was easy compared to the other things I needed to change. Even now - I have to dig deep - as most of them are not things anyone can see or what not. If you are teaching - you may approach the subject differently as there may or may not be scriptures that address this (not prepared to go into that just now). The bottom line is OUR walk with God - not a broad sweeping subject about wrong vs. right. Just a thought.

(1Jn 5:16) If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it. (1Jn 5:17) All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death. That would tend to indicate that all sins are not equal. And don't forget the Sin of Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. Thanks RC

Mat 10:14 "Whoever does not receive you, nor heed your words, as you go out of that house or that city, shake the dust off your feet. Mat 10:15 "Truly I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city. Mat 11:21 "Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles had occurred in Tyre and Sidon which occurred in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. Mat 11:22 "Nevertheless I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you. Joh 19:11 Jesus answered, "You would have no authority over Me, unless it had been given you from above; for this reason he who delivered Me to you has the greater sin."
