There is a bad non-assimilation (is that a word?) - immigrants (esp. Spanish-speaking) don't have to obey our laws and/or speak our language. There is a bad assimilation - Christians can't view themselves as radically different from the rest of the world even though their Scripture teaches them just that. We are children of God; those outside of Christ are children of the devil. We are citizens of heaven and have been called to that so we should live up to our high calling - obey the Sermon on the Mount; obey Ephesians chps. 4-6 - in other words. Be who you are in Christ - Romans 6. People who oppose Christianity, and especially who oppose Christian sanctification, are being used by the devil to thwart the blessings of the Gospel from flowing through the church to the rest of the world. The church is never so strong and good as when she realizes who she is and strives to live up to it. God bless all, Galadriel2

I don't know how to accurately respond to this thread except this: Sometime ago, there was this O' Reilly Factor segment where the titular host was debating/discussing with one immigrant-rights activist, lamenting about how American culture could, or already have corrupted many of the immigrant youth of Latino/Hispanic/Chicano ancestry... legal or otherwise--and by corruption, it is defined by the thug, 'gangsta rap' culture (as opposed to what's commonly detracted by pundits left-of-center) that permeates in the barrios, as well as the ghettos.

God bless all, Galadriel2 Not my words, but a website - Jesus Creed From Don Everts and Doug Schaup, "I Once Was Lost". Drawing on the experience of watching postmoderns come to faith, these two authors chart the pattern of conversion like this: 1. Postmoderns move from distrust to trust. 2. Postmoderns move from complacent to curious. 3. Postmoderns move from being closed to change to being open to change. 4. Postmoderns move from meandering to seeking. 5. Postmoderns move into crossing the threshold into the kingdom itself.

I think the biggest problem is that the thread title doesn't seem to really have much to do with the OP.

Maybe he was trying to make a statement but he didn't know how to "assimilate" his thoughts into a cohesive statement. But then again I've had some posts that are just rants as well. Maybe if he talked of the experience from which this statement came we could address the real issue he wanted to tackle. The first two posts gave me the impression they wanted to tackle some racial burr under the saddle. BTW, isn't "bad non-assimilation" a double negative?

I spent some time thinking about the OP and your responses. If the OP would respond it would be helpful. Seems like the OP is contrasting people immigrating to the U.S.A and refusing to assimilate/integrate into our society with Christians who in reality are assimilating/integrating themselves into the humanist/postmodern/secular world and not integrating into the Kingdom. Seems like this is a comment on the church watering down the gospel and capitulating to the society we are all a part of. They say they aren't but in reality they have lost their faith and are only keeping the outward appearance of being believers.
