My name is Dan. Until recently I've lived a completely faithless life. I grew up in Las Vegas, where sin is abundant and accepted everywhere by everyone. I went to a public school where I learned that God was an imaginary friend for grown ups and evolution was the true law. A year ago, I found the most wonderful woman in the world. She opened my eyes to the truth. That God is real and that through Jesus even I could be saved. It took me awhile to come around, but I'm proud to say that I've been saved. Tuesday she and I were married. Everything in my life has gone from sad and empty to beautiful and joyous. Now I find myself in a place where I'm surrounded by people I care about who do not have the comfort of salvation. I've made my choice, and I desperately want to become a Pastor so that may help them and so many others like them. If there is anyone out there with some advice for a young man who longs to travel the path to ministry, please lend me a hand in finding my way because to be quite honest, i don't know where to start.

Thanks and God bless.

Dan

Find a local Church with your doctrinal beliefs, share with the Pastor you goals and desires, and seek guidance towards those goals and desires.

Schools, tutilaedge, appreticeships, etc. will probable be in the future.

Thanks
RC

It may not be a Pastor that you are looking to become but an evangelist. A Pastor is more of a position of watching over a flock of believers. For going out and reaching the lost is more the heart of an evangelist. Some times they end up the same person others not. As RC said get into a good Bible believing church. Talk to the Pastor about your desires. Believe it or not there are some very good churches in Vegas yes even in sin city. I know of some that went there from Reno and I know of some from that area that have teaching ministries on some local radio stations. Yes it is hard to have people you care about not knowing the Truth and salvation. It will be a long hard road to travel I will let you know but well worth it to see others come to a saving knowledge of Christ. Welcome to the family of Christ and I will be praying that the Lord will guide you and strengthen you for what lies ahead. Oh and congratulations on your marriage. Praise the Lord.

Dan,

God gifts people to be pastors, evangelists, teachers, etc. This is not something you can just decide to do. That is not to say that you haven't been called. Rather, spend time reading His word and praying in meditations to find out if you have such a gift. As far as telling people about salvation: you have already been called to do that in the Bible. I encourage you to read the Gospel of Mark or Matthew. Particularly the last 4 chapters of each book. God outlines our mission. ALL believers are to go out into the world and preach the gospel. You do not need a degree or a certificate or anything to do that--as God is the one who gives the certification--not accredited institutions or men in collars. Incidentally, a pastor is not something you become--it's something that you ARE. It's a gift. There are plenty of men that call themselves pastor and are no more a pastor than Wayne Gretsky is a ballet dancer.

The first thing to do is pray. I would also be wary of going to theological institutions, because they are notorious for twisting the word of God and training men and women in the doctrine of men and not God. If you truly want to be a pastor, study the word of God over and over. Understand it, live it, and pray it. If you are gifted to be a pastor, people will naturally "flock" to you and you will be able to guide them with wise and godly consel as well as provide any assistance they need.\

If you really want to reach the lost, do not go into an air conditioned church on Sunday morning. Go out into the highways and byways as Jesus commanded. Go to the places where sinners are found, and preach repentance through Jesus Christ and the forgiveness of sins. I'll betcha dollars to donuts, the pastors getting crowns in heaven are the ones out in the highways and byways who've never stood behind a pulpit in their life.
