Can short ladies get away with wearing capris? I've heard conflicting opinions on whether it looks fine or looks dumb. I'm 4'10 and not sure if I can pull of the look. (of course, I'd have to try hard to find capris the right length--in the past I have bought pants labeled "capri" and worn them as regular jeans--they were just right! )

I'm 5' tall and I wear them! Capris are about all I wear in the spring/summer.

I am the same way! Some of my best jeans are capris. There are however different lengths of capris. If you get the shorter version, they'll probably fit like regular capris.

I'm short (about 5'2") with short legs and I wear capris. I find that I like them to hit about mid-calf on me in order to look right. The ones that are knee length just make me look short and stubby.

I'm 5'7 and I have yet to find capris made for curvy women that are short enough to not make me look stubby. Maybe it's my body type...

Anyway, after being (playfully)harassed by the "stylish" crowd for my wear of capris I have switched to skirts. They are much cuter and suit my body better.

I find the shorter capris make me look stubby- mid calf or just about ankle length is the length for me.
I'm recently in love with skirts too! I have an ankle length denim skirt that has become my favorite for work. I do have to be careful how I sit because it has slits up the side though.

Yeah that's where I like them too.
I have one pair I wear in the summer, and *I* think they look fine, just wondered what other opinions were.

Stacy, I found that Colombia Sportswear makes some great skorts that are functional and practical for being on the floor with kids.

Stylish crowd? Is that why you're harassing me because I had white socks with sandals on my son?

I've never liked the way I look in capri's, and I'm 5'3". A-line skirts look okay, though.

I'm 5'2" and curvy. I can't wear capris because they all hit at the wrong place and make my hips look wider than they are. For my body type, things that hit at my knees or below the ankle are the most flattering. Anything that cuts at any point on my calf makes me look shorter and wider (skirts included.) Instead, I wear the "walking shorts" that hit at my knee or pants... I could do a knee length a-line skirt, but don't care for skirts so much.

I don't think it's the height that makes a woman look bad in capris... I think it's that capris don't flatter all body shapes and that not all capris flatter the same body.

My first mil is 5'11" and wears capri's. My second mil is 5'0" and wears capri's. I'm 5'7" and wear them. I think it depends on which brands you buy as to how they will make you look.

I'm 5 2" and I wear them alot. I do have to make sure and get petites or hem them or they look more like cropped pants or just too short regular pants. But I think capris are fine on short ladies. I say if you find some you like GO FOR IT!!

I think's it all about proportion. They look good on some people regardless of height and not so well on others. I am not sure what the "what not to wear" people say about them.

I love my capris. I have about ten pair of them and I usually always wear some pretty heels with them, but with the more casual styles you can wear flip flops or tennis shoes (please no socks or no show socks ladies.) I have all different lengths from right at my knee to more of a clam digger style. Everyone could find some that look right. American eagle's blue jean capris are really cute and they carry all sizes on their website. FYI, they are just for young girls. My mom and tons of older women I know wear them and love them.

well, I'm tall - 5'9" and I like capris. And I like long skinny skirts. That's pretty much my summer wardrobe.

I know that I have a hard time finding the right length. I buy them and then have the cleaners alter the length for a couple of dollars.

I have also bought the material and pattern and had a friend make me several pair in assorted colors and fabrics that fit perfectly in length.

Off the rack is not always the best, but altering them doesn't have to be costly.

ETA:
Sorry
OF COURSE you can wear capris if you 4'10" - they probably look fabulous!

I'm pretty short, and I LOVE capris! It can be hard to find ones that look right, i.e. are the right length, but you can. They make ones that go to your knees now, which usually look like regular capris on me. Look in the petite sections at department stores too.

Oh, ladies....

I'm SO thankful that I'm not the only woman who has trouble finding clothing that flatters my body type. For me, I tend to find the longer capris more flattering; however, I am 5'10" or so.....hmmm....guess I'm not much help.

HEre's a capri question: should you wear sneakers with socks with capri's. My mom wears longer capris and I think it looks silly because she only has about 2 inches between her socks and her pants. It looks like too short pants but if she were to wear them with sandles or something they would look fine. Is it just me or is there a "rule" on this

I don't. I guess if you wore them to an office and they allowed it then I would but if it's like to church or something i would wear nicer shoes or sandals.

Capris are like my spring and summer uniform...I probably have a dozen pair from casual to dressy. I'm 5'4", so not tall enough to be able to get away with them according to the fashion editors. But, I don't care...I think they are cute, and I feel very comfortable in them. I think if you enjoy them and feel good then them, then wear them. I don't think the majority of people in everyday life like we all live think like fashion editors and "experts".

I personally hate the look of tennis shoes/socks with capris...I think it's a terrible look! The backless summer tennis shoes look okay with casual capris, but not socks and fully closed tennis shoes. Casual capris need sandals or flip flops and dressy one need some cute heeled sandals

I usually wear mine with sandals, but I've considered sneakers and those no-show socks. I think if the socks didn't show it wouldn't be so bad.
