I'm representing our redeemer in Berkley California. A certain co-worker who attends church infrequently ,claims to be a Christian.( he's a liberal) This past Friday advised me to find a "Nasty woman" to have sex with to relieve tension. I'm not in any tension but it seems to bug him that I sleep alone . I have no desire to slap our Lord Jesus in the face and to experience those consequences from being sexually active outside of marriage. Talk I'm hear is that now days 1 out of 3 sexually active people has a STD. But first and foremost I don't want to be ship wrecked in my Christian faith.

Why is he so interested in your sex life or lack thereof? It's none of his business and inappropriate to discuss in the workplace. He probably just wants validation for his own sexual incontinence.

Well I'm not sure what one's political affiliation has to do with religion. I'm also sure that 1 in 3 isn't quite accurate, but I'm sure you can find accurate numbers from the department of health if you google it.

"Get laid" is a common (not necessarily polite) way of telling someone that they are too high-strung and need stress relief. Perhaps he meant that more than to pry into your sex life. Was it said in a joking manner? Or meanly?

Just tell him "That's not something I really like to joke about." If he doesn't back off after that, talk with your supervisor. If he continues to make you uncomfortable take it to your HR office as a sexual harassment complaint. If they don't do anything the next step would be the department of labor.

Why is he so concerned about it? It really is none of his business. Continue to stand your ground and one day, you may be able to witness to him when his lifestyle gets the best of him. Pray for him.

your sex life is none of his business and if he is a coworker, this is a form of harrassment. ask him to stop it and get some morals. or better yet, drop the conversaiton when he brings it us. of course he is bugged because you are pure and he is not and he is trying to bring you down to his level, just like the devil did to Adam and Eve so they would have to slide on the ground too, like satan has to.

don't fall for it and stick to your guns.

EXACTLY!

My suggestion: Mention to him that you don't appreciate his comments regarding your sex life and ask him to leave you alone.

If he doesn't, start keeping notes (including times and dates) when he brings up innappropriate material to you on the job. After a period of time, bring this to the attention of a supervisor.

Nobody should have to tolerate that kind of treatment on the job.

(SIDE NOTES: First, I work in the medical community. Your numbers as to 1 in3 people having AIDS is WAY off. Do some research, unless you have some material to back your comment up that I don't know of. :)

Secondly, how does being a "liberal" mean that a person can't be a "Christian?" You might want to look at some issues within yourself, too.)

Hey Ironworker, everything everyone said is on the button, but I just wanted to say my nephew has a co-worker that rags on him for not drinking, but my nephew doesn't let anyone manipulate his standards. The guy even tried to get him to drink, but my nephew told him straight up I don't like it and you're not going to change my mind. One of the things my pastor has said is that you have to look at the spirit that's influencing a person, so you know that's the enemy influencing your co-worker. Don't let him push you're buttons. Have a quiet spirit around him. There was a woman on my job, that I helped get that would talk about me and others that was so uncool and unloving and she comes from a so called "Christian" family, but very carnal. I think the hardest people to deal with are the ones that proclaim to be Christian and end up being the most difficult to deal with. I don't wanna sound cliche, but I did talk to God about my co-worker, more like vent to Him about her and that really helped me.

Peace
Dae

I think the spirit of God convicted him he was a little cool with me yesterday. But is opening up since I'm not condemning him at all.

This would be my guess as well.

Or maybe he realized that he was out of line.

That doesn't fit with what the OP stated: "This past Friday advised me to find a "Nasty woman" to have sex with to relieve tension."

Your coworker is a worldly person who lives according to worldly standards. It makes sense he would say these things to you because in the world, these things are "normal".

You are an alien in this world and you live according to God's standards. You're doing a great job! Stay faithful and set apart.

The fact that he attends church infrequently just means he has been exposed to the Gospel, but it doesn't mean he is living with Christ as his Lord and Savior. Maybe the Lord is preparing to use you in your coworker's life.

Hi Ironworker,

To me, this sounds like a witnessing opportunity. I had a freind ask me a question about something similar not too long ago. He didn't recommend that I go out and find someone, but he knew of my faith and decided to ask about my views on sex. I was deeply offended (I'm female and felt it was an innapropriate question) and was ready to end the conversation. But then I felt a prompting to tell him about God's view of sex. So, I talked about it from a scriptural basis, about how sex is designed for marriage, its purpose (beyond procreation - but the bonding effect), about honoring the Lord with my body, and about how the Lord himself can help you to withstand temptation. I talked about how we honor the Lord in many ways and about righteousness. Well, he was incredulous. He, like your friend, said that he was a Christian - went to church every once in a while - but he really wasn't saved. He kept asking questions - trying to understand what I was telling him. I shared bible passages with him. I didn't say Romans 12:1-2 states .... I just spoke the scripture to him using everyday language and shared God's views on this and also about the gospel. I don't know if you'll be led to do something similar, but in this sex-saturated society, for a person, particularly a man, to stand up and say "I'm not having sex until I'm married" is an extremely strong witness for Christ. It can be very uncomfortable though. But if people can come in and talk about their "wild" weekend (ugh), then I can talk about chastity for the Lord when needed. Your friend, if he is a Christian, might also be convicted about what he is doing, which is why he is trying to get you to do what he is doing. I'm pretty sure that he knows he is wrong, which is why he is referring to the woman as "Nasty." (What does that make him if he sleeps with her?)

Just keep standing strong for Christ. Also, for the record, I'm a moderate liberal, a Christian, and definitely believe that sex only belongs in marriage. I just had to state that because liberals get such a bad rap about being immoral. I've known conservatives who were pretty wild as well as liberals who were as well (just think of all of the conservative and liberal politicians that have fallen into sexual sin over the past year or two). The issue with your friend is not political, the problem is that he is either not saved or that he is in some sort of back-slidden state - at least in this area and based on what you've written, probably in many others. I urge you to pray for his salvation and also that you'll be able to remain a strong witness for Christ while you are there.

Very likely just a more vulgar way of putting the old saying... that's all I was saying.

I disagree. That fits exactly with what the OP said.

At least one of my co-workers simply doesn't believe that I don't sleep around.

Cloak your comments on the title of my post. Lets just say I'm seriously considering writing a letter to my congressmen ! . .............. Hey to all who chimed in on my post Thanks a lot I love this forum.... That's right I said "STDs not AIDS" I heard I think on James Dobson focus on the family a guest quoted the The Center for Disease Control saying 65 million Americans has at least 1 of 20 different types of STDs..... As far as my Christian witness on Job site. Its been said "Were to witness every chance we get and when necessary use words" Today this co-worker wanted to tell me what our President is @#%&*)%$ I kept my mouth closed God doesn't want me to go down a rabbit trail of politics. It seems to bug him that I don't let his verble jabs get to me. But 20 years ago they would of.

Stand your ground many are watching and you will have agreat testmoniy. I use to work in a office of several male and females in a socail setting as lunch the subject or sleeping around etc would come up. All knew I was a Christian and I voiced my opions in a postive but quiet way I had one co worker which was my friend state I can not belive you have never sleept with any one but you husband of 25 yr (it just so happen few months later my husband came to work in the office as a IT person and would set in with us at lunch and the subject came up again , be fore i could even bat a eye eveyone looked at him and he made the same statment as I . All this to said a few times later in Pvt I (and He to) was asked how and why we really did not sleep around, It was a great way to witness to my co-worker in more than one way. Stand you ground I wish more would the world would be a better place!!!The best thing is you will not have to think about all the sexual deceses. rumors ,etc that go along with this type of hablts. But again I have been a few church were this was going on and no one really wanted to talk about it!!

emerson - nice note.

i was looking at hpv virus statstics the other day. for young women, like 19 to 25, half have hpv.

I don't think God's instructions about sex in marriage are unrelated to the spread of these diseases. I think it is just yet another helpful, loving instruction from God for all of us: back in the day, 'we' did not have a concept of STDs, and in the modern day many of us still put ourselves at risk even though we 'know better.'

Some CDC info:

"Approximately 20 million Americans are currently infected with HPV, and another 6.2 million people become newly infected each year.

At least 50% of sexually active men and women acquire genital HPV infection at some point in their lives.

Genital warts. About 1% of sexually active adults in the U.S. have genital warts at any one time.

Cervical cancer. The American Cancer Society estimates that in 2008, 11,070 women will be diagnosed with cervical cancer in the U.S.

Other HPV-related cancers are much less common than cervical cancer. The American Cancer Society estimates that in 2008, there will be:

3,460 women diagnosed with vulvar cancer;
2,210 women diagnosed with vaginal and other female genital cancers;
1,250 men diagnosed with penile and other male genital cancers; and
3,050 women and 2,020 men diagnosed with anal cancer."
