There's so many subsections at Crosswalk, I find it difficult to navigate. But here I am. I found this section. (Usually at Worthy Boards)

23if you continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.

23If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;

The Gospel's been preached to every creature under heaven?

How does Paul know this? (Maybe God told him- he did say he went to heaven & returned)

Why creatures and not just man? Poetic language, maybe.

Every? What about those remote tribes in the amazon just discovered? This isn't supposed to occur until the end time, correct?

Paul is great, but can confuse ...

Thanks.

Paul states in the book of Romans 1: 20 and futher on the chapter; For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature- have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that humans are without excuse
By the way according to his writings he was told or recieved his teachings from Jesus Christ. Galatians 1:11-24.

I really don't think that Paul is saying that all one has to do is look at creation and suddenly come to the conclusion they need a savior and that he/she is a sinner etc.

And we are told clearly that there is NO OTHER NAME by which men may be saved. I take that to mean without a consious acknowledgement of Yeshua/Jesus there can be no salvation.

And face it, no one living at the time of Paul in the Americas, east or south Asia, Australia, etc had heard of that name.

Paul was using hyperbole.

We have no scriptural authorization to call the mentally incapacitated, or little children who are not Jewish saved. Period.

That does not mean that God CAN'T save them; He is soverign and can save whom ever He will. It just means HE has not guarenteed to do so.

If you think that confessing Jesus is a "work" you have a skewed idea of what work is, biblically speaking.

If you are making mental acknowledgement of Jesus a condition upon going to heaven then you have merely replaced the penance system of works-righteousness with a belief system.
There you go.

We are saved by faith (i.e. a belief system) and not by works.

Luk 7:48 And he said to her, "Your sins are forgiven."
Luk 7:49 Then those who were at table with him began to say among themselves, "Who is this, who even forgives sins?"
Luk 7:50 And he said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you; go in peace."

Eph 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,
Eph 2:9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Believing in Jesus is clearly contrasted with works.

One would almost have to assume that the requirements for Christ return have long been fulfilled based on Paul’s statement.

Rom 10:18 But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.

Faith, in the biblical sense, is about trust. Specifically, it is about who you put your trust in.
I can work with that.

Unless you trust JESUS you are not saved.

Like Paul said:

Rom 10:14 But how are they to call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?

Unless you have heard of Jesus and believe (put your trust in HIM) you are not saved.

Thanks, emerging, & the rest.

Worthy Boards gave some insight as well- on the original Greek, and the two tenses. Helpful (it was tricky).
