Sarah - I was watching How Clean Is Your House, and Kim cleaned someones tub using baking soda and lemon juice and a soft cloth. Would that work on your tub? The two reacted together and bubbled so it was a scrubber, but it wasn't that abrasive. (Please don't yell at me if you try it and it ruins your tub!)

lol....I will try that...haven't yet. I do clean the sink with lemons and salt...don't know why I didn't think of that. The tub is clean, it just looks dingy looking..and I hate that!!!

well, our internet was fuzzy today (had to call out a tech to look at it and get it working again)....so we got the house cleaned, and I went through the buckets of clothes to pare down what we don't need to keep for years to come. The boys are 7 years apart in age, and grow very differently...so I don't want to keep things for the next ten years for Jack to wear just because Jake wore them!!! We also aren't sure if we will have any more kids, and wanted to get rid of any baby girl clothes that we won't use. I didn't get rid of much there....just in case we do decide to have another one or in case this one happens to be a surprise girl.....but we did get it down quite a bit and get rid of the stained and junky and just old clothes. Anyway...so that's what I accomplished. Hubby took five trash bags of stuff out to the van to take to Goodwill tomorrow!!! Plus two bags of trash stuff!!!! Tonight I am going to go back through the buckets one last time, condense them down into less buckets, and make sure that I kept exactly what needed to be kept.

quote:

Ours is the EXACT same way. We've lived here 2 years and it seems like it gets a little cleaner with every cleaning, but it's still not gleaming yet. That dirt is just ground in (this house is about 50 yrs. old). I use a stiff bristle brush and an abrasive cleaner like Comet or sometimes just plain ole' baking soda. Does wonders. The sides are gleaming, but the bottom I just can't get 100% clean because the porcelain finish is worn.

yeah I tried that already....not very impressed with the results. Our house was built in the 1950's, so I wouldn't be surprised if the tub is pretty old. That bathroom has been renovated but the tub is original.

quote:

Ladies with dingy baths ... try automatic dishwashing gel. Let a thin layer sit on the surface and rinse thoroughly.

hmmmm....never heard that one before!!! Have to try it out!!! I will let you know if it works....have to get some gel first, we use the premeasured tabs (so that our 8yo doesn't overload it with soap!!!)

I don't have to file my tax return until late October, but this is the first tax return I've had to file in nine years. It's a little daunting. Last year I just had to submit a form to say I hadn't earnt enough to do a tax return and the previous eight years I didn't work.

Tomorrow we have to wash, vacuum, and tidy up the garage. J and X did a lot around the house today to earn some money.

My BIL has 4 kids, and for a few years didn't file his taxes. My dad was doing his taxes for him one year and said "are you kidding me, do you know how much money you could be getting?" Good thing Baby Bonus and UCCB is retroactive.

I didn't paint yesterday.

I'm so tired today. A nap sounds good and I just got up.

My mind is preparing for a trip to the border Monday morning.

I need to water my plants, measure windows for shades to bring back. Make a list of supplies to bring home. Take a walk and I'd like to do palates, but I think it hurt me yesterday, WAH!!!! I couldn't sleep because I hurt last night.

well, we are taking a break now (lunch break)....but we got started in our bedroom...WOW it sure was a mess for being clean!!!! Actually we started with going through everything and getting another two bags of stuff to get rid of or throw away. Got rid of half of the shoes that we don't wear or that needed to be tossed. Hubby got rid of a lot of his junk (YAY!!!). We put some plastic drawers in the closet so that he can get the huge dresser out of our room....for one it doesn't fit too well...for two Jake needs a dresser in his room (his is cheap and fell apart a long time ago, so now his clothes are all over the floor every other day!!!! Hopefully he will keep this dresser much nicer and be able to use it...it is solid wood, so it should stand up to his harshness on it much better then that cheap particle board cheapo one was. Anyway.....still have to move it out of our room when his room is ready 9which might not be for a few more days). I cleaned the carpet in our room (the cat had kittens on it the other night, so it needed it, esp in one corner!!!). So our goals for our room are 99% accomplished!!!!

My apartment needs a good tidying this weekend. Not cleaning, just tidying. Every room has something in it that needs to be put away!

I also need to head to the store today. We got the P&G brand saver today, and one of our local stores is giving gift cards to people who spend a certain amount of money on P&G products. There is also a little midway set up in the parking lot at the mall across the street, so I think I'll take Akeelah there, and go on the merry go round!

today we did half of Jake's room.....I swear there wasn't an inch of floor space anywhere in that room!!! HOW can it become so messy so fast!!!!! Well we got about half of it done....mostly just picked up and the bed moved...have to get everything out of there and move the dresser in and figure out the furniture placement, but we are done for today...we will do the rest tomorrow. We are taking all of his toys out and they will be put in Jack's room...he has to ask for them one at a time now and prove to us that he can keep them cleaned up and his clothes put away before he can earn the right to have them back in there.

Well, It stopped raining long enough for us to go and buy the plants we were looking at, start weeding and cutting back some plants so that we can work in the area and dh got a phone call to say a job he was working on yesterday is now no longer sending any signals to the monitoring station.

I finished trimming back what I could in the garden but the rest of it I need dh for, so I have to wait now until he gets back.

We have enough greenwaste sitting on our front lawn right now to fill the back of dh's truck twice over. I'm very tempted to wander about five houses down the road to the guy who runs a skip bin business and ask him how much a small skip would cost. Then I can get rid of our old refrigerator, a tyre which some kids rolled onto our driveway, a couple of car batteries, some timber waste and the greenwaste all in one go.

We would call that an Industrial Waste bin. They're used more on commercial sites.

What I'm talking about is one of these.

ahhhh OK...one of those!!! I have seen them on home remodel shows on tv....I guess for all the waste that they produce. We needed one of those when we moved!!!! We had to take five loads of boxes and wrapping stuff to the dump/recycling center....and that was not even all of it and they were broken down!!! The company that moved our stuff said they would come back and pick it up if it didn't rain...well, it rained of course....so we had to dispose of it ourselves. Hubby took the two seats out of the van and they did at least five runs stuffing everything they could into that thing.

We've had moves like that... not fun!!!

I try really hard not to let stuff build up now. About every six weeks dh and I take a run out to the tip to get rid of excess waste. The bins provided by council just aren't enough when you run your own business from home. Our side passage is becomes our miniature waste centre quite regularly.

We had to talk to our neighbour about flicking his cigarette butts over our fence recently, not only because it's a really gross habit (I couldn't believe it when we found cigarette butts in there), but because that's where we store the waste until we can get rid of it and the last time we went to the tip we found some cardboard product with scorch marks on it.

The last building I lived in, I was on the first floor. The guy on the third floor right above me would flick his cigarette butts over the balcony and they would land at my door. One day, I walked into the living room and he was standing right in front of my sliding door and I screamed. He had come down to pick up all the cigarette butts he had dropped. I'm assuming he lives with someone who doesn't know he smokes and that's why he didn't have an ashtray.

I've managed to get a lot done today. Akeelah is down for her nap so now I get my downtime. I still need to:
-finish cleaning the bathroom (tub and shower done)
-prepare dinner (quick meal tonight)
-email interview questions to my subject
-send out a few emails for my volunteer thing
-dust, sweep and mop living room (though I may leave this until tomorrow)

Today, I unpacked and did laundry. You would not believe how dirty our house was! There's some road construction nearby and our house was filthy with dust! My boys swept and mopped while I watered my flowers, washed down the terraza, patio and cochera. I also washed down our 2 cars w/the pressure washer. The dust was so bad. This morning I bathed my dog before leading worship for the Spanish service. Then, I was sick! I think that's over.

I'm super excited to be home after a week of travel! Monday-Saturday. I got to see Houston, Austin, even Powderly, Texas! We brought home supplies and that's the exciting part. I have curtain's and rods to hang in my son's room and husband's office. We bought some new ceiling fans, although not able to buy enough to replace them all, it's a big start! I hope hubby will be willing to help me put up the curtains tomorrow. I even bought some cute valances for my kitchen! Hubby bought me an inexpensive recumbant bike so that I can modify my workout with the condition of my back. I've got to lose about 20 pounds.

Monday I'm hoping to workout
grocery shop
hang curtains
dust
clean bathrooms
maybe get the guest bedroom ready to be painted!

list for today is....
*finish up in the kitchen (then I can take pics of it clean even if all the cabinet doors aren't up yet!!!)
*rearrange the furniture in the living room so hubby can get his left leg up and watch tv more easily
*basic clean up in the kids bedrooms
*vacuum
*overhaul clean the bathroom

and if it isn't too much to do, start getting the pool cleaned out...have to scrape the bottom with the net and get all the junk out of it so we can get the chemicals in it and get it started for the year!!! I am not sure if I can do it though...some days my arms are like jelly by the afternoon...and I am not sure what hubby will feel like this afternoon.

My day was completely thrown off. I was going to grocery shop early, then have Dh drop me off at my mom's to do laundry on his way to work. But he was called in early so that plan is out the window.

So far I've gotten the important tasks done - dishes, dusting, sweeping. Now I'm just going to roll some change (then hide it so we don't spend it), maybe pick up my knitting needles and start something, maybe do some baking and then grocery shop when Dh comes home.

so was mine. I got the kitchen done more (all the dishes done, counter wiped off, and started going through and organizing the spices in the spice rack). We were going to clean out the pool this afternoon, but hubby told me at lunch that the net broke...so we went ahead and went to the pool store to get a new one...then to Sam's to get shock and chemicals, etc. Now it's too hot to be out there in the beating sun, so we will try it later. The rest of the house I haven't touched...and don't feel like touching now. As long as the floor stays cleared enough for Paul to use his crutches then it's fine with me...which it is right now. Just mostly needs to be vacuumed. Oh well...at least we got our running around done before the weekend so we don't have to deal with the weekend shopping crowds
