Why do we celebrate birthdays by feeding everyone cake made from white flour, grease, sugar, and eggs -- the very thing that will insure them fewer birthdays? Why do people push the elevator button several times, or stand there holding it in? Do they think it will make the elevator come faster? And for that matter, why do people stand there and smack the "walk" button several times? Will they get the "walk" light faster if they do that? Or do they think it really doesn't work, so if they pound it a lot, it may start working? Why do cashiers in stores pause a transaction to take phone calls then stand there and talk to the one on the phone, when they were waiting on a customer with the debit card in their hands? If I am obviously sitting down, reading a book, why do people come up and ask what I am doing? If I am putting lotion on my hands, why do people ask, "Oh, are your hands dry?" Why do people complain about others not washing their hands in public bathrooms, then turn off the water with their washed hands, and open the door, touching the handle? Why do people use check-cashing stores, which charge something like 20%, when a bank will cash their check for free? Why do they make left-handed- and right-handed-scissors when they could make scissors that are compatible for all handedness? Why do several people enjoy sitting around, watching each other making loud staccato nonsense sounds with their mouths wide open? Why do some snort when they do it? Why do some bend over at their waist and some slap their thighs when they do it? Why do some do it so long and so hard that they make themselves cry? Why do we look forward to this activity, wanting to do it again and again? Why are really scary activities really fun?

"That's a very good question." Meaning: I need some time to think this one out. I need some time to think up some answer that will make me appear to know what I am talking about. I need some time to come up with a good diversion so they will never realize that I haven't even attempted to answer the question, because I have no idea what the answer is.

Why do we celebrate birthdays by feeding everyone cake made from white flour, grease, sugar, and eggs -- the very thing that will insure them fewer birthdays? No! they wanted to be fat quote:
Why do people push the elevator button several times, or stand there holding it in? Do they think it will make the elevator come faster? They dont know how to use it. quote:
And for that matter, why do people stand there and smack the "walk" button several times? Will they get the "walk" light faster if they do that? Or do they think it really doesn't work, so if they pound it a lot, it may start working? They are avoiding the police. quote:
Why do cashiers in stores pause a transaction to take phone calls then stand there and talk to the one on the phone, when they were waiting on a customer with the debit card in their hands? Dont know. i dont have credit card never experieced to have one anyway. quote:
If I am obviously sitting down, reading a book, why do people come up and ask what I am doing? yeah i know this one; because they just wanted to call your attention that is. quote:
If I am putting lotion on my hands, why do people ask, "Oh, are your hands dry?" because lotion is for moisturizing the skin! quote:
Why do people complain about others not washing their hands in public bathrooms, then turn off the water with their washed hands, and open the door, touching the handle? uh uh i dont do that. I usually rinse the faucet before touching it and then i take tissue and then i use the tissue to touch the door handle. honestly i dont know. quote:
Why do people use check-cashing stores, which charge something like 20%, when a bank will cash their check for free? lazy to go to the bank? or thety dont know that. quote:
Why do they make left-handed- and right-handed-scissors when they could make scissors that are compatible for all handedness? dont know either. quote:
Why do several people enjoy sitting around, watching each other making loud staccato nonsense sounds with their mouths wide open? Why do some snort when they do it? Why do some bend over at their waist and some slap their thighs when they do it? Why do some do it so long and so hard that they make themselves cry? Why do we look forward to this activity, wanting to do it again and again? this one i know cause i am playing violin and it is a very good sound indeed. Maybe they are practicing voice lesson? honestly these are called stupid habits.

ORIGINAL: jessiebadillo or you just need someone to talk to here that is why you wrote those? Ha ha ha! got you sis. okay here i am let's talk. i would love to listen. Oh, I just find some things to be humorous, so I thought I would invite people to write things here that they find to also be humorous or odd. Like why is it an unwritten rule in the USA that when riding an elevator, one must be silent, face the front, and say nothing to anyone? Why do happy people make others nervous? When people drive down the public street, picking their nose, where do they put that? Why keep on talking when you know that the other person is only interested in what THEY have to say? Why do people ask, "How are you?" when they are really hoping you will not answer or they really don't care? When will people learn that they should not ask this of most people who are over age 65? Why does cleave mean to cling together but it also means to cut apart? ...just stuff like that....

That was a joke sis. Honestly? you made me think about your post so here is my take on it. I did some of those myself so here is my explanation. When i see my friends ddoing something; i see it already but i just said it. my purpose is to call their attention and it;s like my introductory remarks to them and from there we can begin a conversation. about the elevator thing; the room is very small and to make noise or move is like disturbing the whole bunch of people at your back. How are you today CM?

Yeah, just a joke. Sorry. I just think some things we humans do are funny, odd, sometimes ridiculous. I think we are humorous beings, and that's a good thing, because laughter is a good use of calories, makes us feel great, is a great way of communicating, and brings us together. How am I? Just great but almost ready to say good night! How are you?

Love those KJV words. One I like especially is rereward. Why does second mean something coming after the first, 1/60th of a minute of time, or 1/360th of a degree? If the terms first world and third world appear in most English dictionaries, why does not second world? How many working 8-track players remain and are used by the owners to play music? Who decided that eggs, toast, and orange juice are breakfast food and are not for lunch or supper? Who created the neck tie? Did they have some kind of a vendetta against men? We all know that they are decorative nooses. How did the sport curling get its name? How small are the smallest curling stones?

Why did Franklin, maker of the most user-friendly handheld Bible in about 1986 or so, quit making them and refuse to repair them anymore, offering, instead, a handheld that is completely inferior? Of course, the chicken came first. Does anyone alive today really completely understand Pogo comics? Is there anyone alive today in the USA who honestly thinks that Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In is funny? If dust is damaging for computers and keyboards, why do they make duster sprays that just blow all the dust, mites, and cookie crumbs into them instead of suctioning the junk off them? I used to have a great-uncle named Sippy. His wife liked to be called Mrs. Sippy. Speaking of names, there was a woman living in St. Louis, MO, whose name was Vanilla Wafer. Is this thread an exercise in useless silliness? Yes, but it's fun.

Why do they call it "life insurance" when they are insuring your death?

quote:
If I am putting lotion on my hands, why do people ask, "Oh, are your hands dry?" Well, you can put lotion on just because you like the smell of the lotion. I do that, and then it wouldn't seem so silly to ask a person if their hands were dry. You know? quote:
Like why is it an unwritten rule in the USA that when riding an elevator, one must be silent, face the front, and say nothing to anyone? Serious. I didn't know that! I never face the front. I stand sideways and hold on to the walls. I'm claustrophobic and I always think I am going to get stuck in the elevator. We had 7 sets of stairs at our dorm in MU and I would walk all of them to avoid that elevator. Praise God I was on the 2nd floor and it was aligned with the ground and so I didn't have to walk them often. quote:
Why do happy people make others nervous? Because happiness is out of the norm these days. Today I was at Walmart in the photo section. Niecey was getting her pictures taken and this woman came who was nice at first, but then when she found out that there was no sign up sheet and got frustrated with the woman, she made this HUGE scene. That verse came to mind, "let your gentleness be made known to all man the Lord is at hand..." quote:
Who decided that eggs, toast, and orange juice are breakfast food and are not for lunch or supper? Because God was thinking about me and how I don't like to eat in the morning and so He put the generally untasty foods during that time! :) quote:
Why do they call it "life insurance" when they are insuring your death? You'll probably think this answer is silly. But I always thought it was called Life Insurance because it is for the betterment of those left behind after such and such a person dies, you know? And... here are two that I like... When you go to Heaven, do you wear the clothes you were buried in forever? Babies wake up almost every two hours or so, then why say, “sleep like a baby”?

Why do you “put your two cents in” when it is only “a penny for your thoughts”? What happens to the other penny?

Think of it this way, the person receiving the two cent's worth is getting a pretty good deal. Although, in truth, I think that the two-for-one thought exchange may just mean the one just has an excess inventory of thoughts, so they're offering them on clearance.
