Hunters, lets talk gear, hunts, links to kills this year, tell what will be hunting with, fave cammo products, etc etc etc
I am now going this week to site my Thompson Center IKON .243 in. I live in LA((Lower Alabama)) and will prolly be zeroing in on 250 yds

so do i. be first time in 4 years havent been deployed in deer season. i got one already with bow ((lil doe maybe 100 lbs)) but so nice to get first kill non-terrorist in 4 years*did i say that*

Sweet! I have a bow, but didn't get to go this year, had too much homework! :(

I didn't get drawn this year so I am just doing some reloading and poking holes in paper. Doing a lot of trapshooting and just started loading my own 12ga and 20ga stuff.
A friend was telling me of a herd of deer feeding in a field of Chile peppers and got me interested in the flavor of that venison. I guess it would be a sin to harvest one with my 17HMR, get thee behind me Satan.

will have to ask the girls if they took any. i was so happy to get one with a bow. in 4 years of bow hunting is my first with a bow so they blooded me yet again. thos epics won't make it to net. halloween all over again

I've never been hunting before and want to get into. Will probably start with Pheasant hunting as it is more accesible and I have a friend who is into it.
I have no idea how to buy a gun. I.E. what to look for and what to get. Any suggestions?

Well I plan on hunting all season long with My Diamond Edge Compound Bow. My husband has already killed 2 does and a buck with his Mathews DXT and his Diamond Rock bow.
I just want a doe at least so I can say I killed something with my bow. I have killed with a rifle many times but never a bow.

Drum for pheasant hunting i would suggest a 12g either pump or over/under.
actually a pump would be cheaper. for pheasant hunting would get one with a minimum 28 inch barrel. camo would be something along the lines of whatever the ground cover is like.

Get a Remington 870 pump in 12ga, probably the 870 Express from one of the big box stores. They are probably the most popular shotgun out there.
The Mossberg 500 would be my second choice. No need spending big bucks just getting started.

Pheasant hunting can be loads of fun. I second the recommendation of a 12ga. Remington 870 Express Pump. You can find them for around $250, and they are guns that, with basic care, you will be able to pass along to your children and grandchildren. You can drop an 870 in the mud and it will still work, and they are really easy to take apart and clean. The 870 Express can hold four shells in the tube and one in the chamber, though many states have a 3-shell limit to how many shells you can have in the gun at once when bird hunting, so you may have to put a plug (which comes with the gun) in the tube, which allows only two shells to fit instead of four.
Buying a gun varies depending onwhich state you live in. Here in Colorado, you pick out your gun, fill out a background check form, wait an hour or so for it to process, and make your purchse. Pretty easy. Some lib states have a lot more silly hoops to jump through though, so you will need to call the sporting goods stor where you want to buy and ask them requirements.
Getting a pheasant license (at least in CO an KS) requires a hunter's safety card, so if you have never taken the class you may need to. It is very easy, but teaches you a lot of good rules and guidelines to using a gun. I passed hunter's safety when I was 10 or 11 I think.
Pheasant tastes like chicken (cliche, but true), only a little richer and more tender. Once you have a pheasant dish you won't want chicken again ;)

I am not a hunter and I have to say that I am appalled. We as humans have no right to take the lives of these innocent creatures. They should be encouraged to flourish, and propagate unchecked, so that they can perform their civil duty to mother earth by wandering out on the roads of America and taking out all the ozone depleting, gas burning cars they can! Yeah! Their sacrifices will be remembered! Denizens of the animal kingdom, Unite! against your human oppressors!
No, seriously, I am not a hunter but I work with people who are. And I find myself thanking them a lot for the deer jerky they bring in.

it is illegal to kill fawns and i for one obey hunting laws. to break them cost literally thousands of dollars if you do certain things wrong.
besides unless you one of the vegetarian vegan fruits, it is the healthiest meat around
vegetarian= old indian word for terrible hunter
