There's always been a fine line between democracy and the government. The biggest in this country's history is the separation of church and state. While doctrine has always differed from one person to the next, the inherent Truth of G-d's Word has remained mostly consistent across denominational lines. People were free to worship what they wanted and thus, America's government basically stayed out of people's personal religious beliefs. But on the whole though, the many truths of the bible has held steadfast in our Constitution.

With this separation of church and state birthed that wonderful thing called democracy. But are we beginning to see that democracy being lost? Proposition 8 is a good example. Here, the people have chosen but the homosexual community is now opposing this democracy and is demanding that the government get involved. Government's involvement will no longer make church and State separate. One group of people, whose own beliefs are so strong that they attempt to defy democracy. Forget what the people have voted.

With a liberal President elect, I am curious to see just how long true Democracy in this country will last.

What are your thoughts on Democracy in this country? Where do you think democracy will head with our current President elect?

No, democracy is certainly not lost. Democracy is still alive and doing well, it has been this way for the past 300 years, this will never change. This country is and always will be one nation under God regardless of who is the President of the United States. We will serve one President and we will serve one God. As long as the President does not require us to do anything that is contrary to scripture, then we will submit to authority as we rightly should. We can keep our religious beliefs and serve this nation as well, I am confident that both can be accomplished.

I believe democracy is in great peril in this country. Why?

1. Obama says he will use sweeping executive orders immdiately upon entering the White House.
2. He plans on raising up a "civilian security force". Sounds very SS-like to me.
3. The government is buying shares of private companies in these bail-outs. The door to socialism has swung wide open.
4. Free speech WILL be curtailed - it will be illegal to speak pr preach against historic moral issues such as homosexuality in the very near future.

Yes friends, democracy in this country is on life support.

Only if we let it.

Only if we sit in our churches and let our voices be silent in our government.

Only if christians do not vote with Christ in mind.

Only if...we let true conservatism die.

Only if..we let fear control us and suck at the government teat.

Only if...we let more charity go into the hands of government.

Only if..we deny the truths in the bible for CULTURE and what makes us feel good over what is biblically right.

Democracy lost in this country because most Americans are now lazy socialists who willingly trade their own freedom for a government handout.

Are you honestly saying that you'd rather go back a hundred years?

In some respects, certainly.

Ok, but I'd like to keep the running water, modern medicine, internet, safe workplaces, EPA, and anti-trust laws.

Certainly; I just wish we could have these things without becoming wussified wards of the state.

While I often find myself in agreement with these sentiments, they so often come across like Marie Antoinette demanding, "Let them eat cake!"

That was classic. I almost want to make that a sig or a bumper sticker or something.

I'd like to keep my citizenship- 100 yrs ago Native Americans weren't even considered human beings and women were the "chattel property" of their fathers or husbands.

A much-maligned woman, who unfortunately had an inordinate fondness for Viennese pastries (she was a Hapsburg, after all).

Probably true. For instance, I'd go back 2000 years, but only if I could be Emperor of Rome.

Well 100 years ago my family was Native American, being wiped out by Turks, Catholic, and dirt poor (and I mean literallly, Mississippi mud farm dirt) so I'm certainly not speaking as one who is pollyannish about the past.

And white, Protestant males are among the most likely to become soft in the modern world.

Out of curiosity, where was your family that it was Native American but being wiped out by Turks and Catholics? Just wondering. My family has no interesting past.

The Armenian part of my family was the remnant that left during the Aremenian Genocide. The Catholic part of the family was working the rice fields in Louisiana, and my Native American great-grandmother was being assimilated through marriage to my Dutch-English trapper grandfather.

This attitude is excatly why deomcracies to fall. Pride goeth before the fall. We have not served one God for a long time in this country, we serve money, populartiy, youth, power, etc. From a historical prespective Democracies tend to impolde from within.

Jhud I'm with you I would go back 100 years as well and I'm defenitly not Male. And I don't have a pollyannish feel of the past either but I also don't buy into the Liberal view of American history as all about the domination of the evil WASP males.

An interesting and varied heritage! Most Americans are woefully ignorant of the Armenian genocide.

My orphaned grandmother sadly was not.
