She gets changed when she's wet. I use powder or vaseline.
What can I do to get rid of it? It's only been about a week now but has. progressed to being raw. It's not all over but has spreaded some. I have Desitin but was told that made it spread by her babysitter? She's 1 and has never had it before. Should I take her to the doctor? She had an appt. Last week and it wasn't there.

Desitin is going to be miles better than vaseline, that's for sure!

How old is she? Is she teething, by chance?

I've heard of people using corn starch for babies with sensitive skin.

When I was a baby, I had a diaper rash, so my parents laid me out on a blanket in the sun with my bum bare, and the rash went away.

Get some Aquaphor and some Maalox. Mix the together, adding as much Maalox as you can without making it too runny. This is official, number-2-rated-NICU-in-the-USA butt paste.

Soak her little bottom in a tub of warm water with a handful of baking soda in it for about 10 minutes. Pat her dry and put the butt paste on. Put butt paste on every time you change her. When she takes a nap, pad up her bed with some towels and leave her diaper off.

If the rash is bright red and not improving, it's probably yeast, which will respond to otc Lotrimin cream applied 4 times a day.

If Vaseline isn't working then definitely try Desitin, or even Lanolin(like what breastfeeding mothers use to prevent sore nipples, it can be found near the bottles/breastpumps in Target or Walmart). Some babies can have a sensitivity to petroleum products, my DD does and her rashes get worse if we use anything that contains it.

We just love California Baby rash cream, or Burt's Bees.

April, cindybode is a nurse, so I'd do what she says.

Cindy, I also had baking soda in my mind, but wasn't sure.

Ah yes, this is wonderful. DO NOT try mixing it with Desitin, which is what our advice nurse told me to use. Cindy's recipe works much better.

definitely try Desitin,

I didn't realize she hadn't used the desitin yet, until I read the OP.

April, I used to work at a preschool, and they always had use desitin. I still trust Cindy's solution to be even better, though.

depends on the rash specifically (type) and the baby....

some babies are sensitive to certain creams with zinc oxide in them...so if the rash seems to have appeared after using a cream (such as desitin) then it could be that they are sensitive to it.

yeast rash...it will respond to lotrimen (or any fungal cream), yogurt (without sugar), acidophilus capsules broken open on it, sunlight when possible (maybe a nap with a bare bottom in a sunny window)

some rashes can be from teething....basic treatments (like creams, etc) seem to work for those. I personally use corn starch because I have had kids sensitive to the zinc in creams before. The kids I use is ordered online (can't find it in the stores here) but HERE is the site...or you could use the basic kind in the cooking isle at the grocery store. You could also use burnt flour (put regular white flour into a pan on the stove, and cook it til it is not white anymore...son't add anything to it. Let it cool and put in a shaker or container to use when needed)

some rashes can be from allergies or sensitivities to certain foods...so if you noticed it start after starting a new food then that's one to think about.

for more info HERE is Dr Sears page on rashes.

Another thing I have found is burnt flour:

Put some flour in a frying pan and keep stirring it on a lower temp until it starts to brown. After it cools sprinkle some of that on. I discovered it with ds3. I tried it on my niece once too and within 1 diaper change there was a big improvement and it was gone in about a day

She just turned 1. Yes she has teeth coming in.

It may be yeast. It's red and it's not all over. The rash started in between her bottom then went away completely within a week. Then it started on the "front" on the top of it now has spread back to in between her bottom. This is the only place it's at and it's red.

I'll try the butt paste and Maalox. Is the lotrimin just over the counter?

Wow, thank you all for the advice. I'll try the butt paste and Maalox first and post later to let you know how it goes.

LOL... (I am unofficially from all over..thanks in part to the military...lol)

if it is yeast then the other methods for a regular rash will make it worse. Also, if it is yeast, keep an eye on her mouth for thrush to pop up...because it might if the imbalance is in her gut. Did she happen to be on antibiotics for anything recently? If so then that might be where it started from....antibiotics kill all bacteria, the good and the bad....so it typically leads to yeast/thrush infections. Anytime anyone in our family is on antibiotics we make sure to dose up really good daily with acidophilus to replace the good bacteria balance.

Is the lotrimin just over the counter?

Yup, it's over the counter athlete's foot cream. You can buy a generic, just make sure the ingredient is lotrimazone.
