I see we have some disney fans here. I agree that I have yet to watch a Disney movie that isn't totally entertaining but, as a Christian, I am not feeling so comfortable with Disney anymore.
For example, in the movies Brother Bear I & II, they are praying to other gods/spirits. I recently went to Disneyland, so many shows, like the Tiki room show, made references to other gods, the god of rain, etc.
All the princess movies, have a man saving the woman with true love's kiss coming from a man, not love coming from Jesus.
Do you think it is okay for young children to watch these movies? Does anyone feel me here? Or do you think I am being too serious?

I'll be the first to jump on this thread. Like any other things in life....if a Disney movie convicts you....yes...then don't watch-- it's like some people feels convicted watching a PG 13 movie and some just feels convicted watching any movie at all. Is it okay for children to watch movies like this? Let me see....when I was growing up, I used to watch Casper the friendly ghost, did I think that it was all wrong? As a child then, I just thought Casper was a cutie little white fluff who needed a friend. Will I let my child watch Casper now? He'll probably laugh at it. I don't know, personally, there are things in my walk in faith that are more important than what's on a Disney movie but then that's just for me.

I agree with jodavi! If you are convicted not to watch something or not to let your children watch, then you shouldn't! Personally, I figure my kids will be exposed to many things that go against what we believe. I take the opportunity to point out how we believe something really different than that. Now that they are older, they will often point it out themselves.

I know I've posted some posts about Disney movies,but all in all I do not watch Disney movies.I've seen some of the older ones like Little Mermaid,Beauty and the Beast,Lion King. But honestly,I wasn't into them. Just watched them. I can't watch them over and over like others. I have not seen any the newer ones. My favorite is Toy Story 2. I agree with the other posters,if you feel something isn't right to watch,then don't let your kids watch it.

One thing to watch for in the Disney and other animated fllms is the radical enivromentalism in the films. But rather than "throw the baby out with the bathwater" there is a need to explain why the message of the movie differs from your own views.

You are WAY TOO LEGALISTIC and need to take a chill bro . .. . if you want to guard your kids from the eeeevil that's disney, that's on you, but your view is legalistic and a bit over drawn in my opinion.

I think some people get on a kick reading too much into things, then they shouldn't be watching any tv or movies.
the muppets and looney toons have just as much objectionable content if you want to start analyzing those too.

Good Morning all, I hope you are having a good Sunday.
I guess you could say I “get a kick” out of reading into things; personally, I like to view it that God wired me that way. I pick a part movies, books, advice without a second thought. I didn’t pick a part things before I was Christian. I think it is just that once I read the bible through (after being born again ) part of me remembers what I’ve read in the bible. I can’t always recall exactly what scripture that aligns with my current situation but, a bad feeling comes over me regarding certain things, like red flags.
The bible does say:
Philippians 4:8
8Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
Well, if I see something I know is not in line with what I know to be true, then I don’t usually like it. I am easily turned off by things I believe are stuck in the world, somethings more than others... I am not saying Disney should be banned or that I am even going to stop being a fan but, I am going to continue to be unusally aware of red flags in children’s movies and books.
I know I must function in the world and be open to things outside of His kingdom to fulfill my purpose, but, doesn’t mean I have to like everything I see.
What I love about this forum is that you get diverse posts from our diverse body. There is always one of you on each thread that posts the answer I already have in my heart; I don’t have the words I am looking for, or, I need to be reminded of those words...On this thread, the answer I needed was yours, Collifan.
Since I may be a little of subject, I am going to ask some further questions in the general faith section. I would love to hear your responses.

Maybe we need to build big walls all around us to shut out everything. Then we'll be safe from the evil world of animated animals and toys.

We were watching Tom and Jerry, the old version not this new one that is boring. The cat was trying to beat up the mouse and the mouse was getting the cat good. I am watching this and I am in shock at how violent it is. It all of the sudden struck me how some in the media make a huge deal on violent video games and movies. We watched tom and Jerry as well as Road Runner etc that were very violent by today's standards yet we turned out ok.

The same with the Three Stooges. My brother and I watched those guys all throughout our childhood and also we basically turned out ok, with no tendencies to mimic them. But if you were to analyze their behavior, it's pretty rough, the way they acted towards one another. To us it was just silly, goofy, outrageous hilarity.

There are ALWAYS going to be kids movies (Disney or not) that some people are going to take "issue" with.
Then, what about "Cars" (fabulous movie....terrific "moral to the story")......"Nemo" (great father/son movie)....."The Rookie" (another great one)...."Remember the Titans".....
and, there are many others...
if I were to look, i am sure there are some "Christian-labeled" films and such that I wouldn't let my kids watch, either....
Disney films NEVER did = Christian movie......but, there are far too many GOOD movies in their catalogue to just ditch the entire company....

(on a side note:
oddly, and despite how this passage is usually interpreted, there is not a single negative command in the passage. it is an entirely positive injunction, directing us towards what we should engage and embrace, i.e. whatever is true, whatever is noble, etc, etc and think on those things.

And move the main branch to Texas! Oh! Wait, that has been played out already.
If you look for evil, you will find it since the world is full of it! And as to the OP, I hope and pray that you don't over do it with your children, they may grow up to regret it and dispise you. Many children have grown up in homes of very strict and devout Christians and also pastors children, and they end up leaving the church. Try to be open with your children you can't sheild them from everything, you can equip them with biblical principles and pray that this leads them to the correct path, but I guarantee if you over do it, you will cause them to become rebellious.
As far as Disney movies themselves go, the world we live in now is becoming more and more secular at about every turn. Watch the movies with your children it may be the only time you get to spend with them.
