Anyone know if they make a dock for mp3 players other than for ipods? All three of my kids have mp3 players that they love, but they are not ipods and I haven't found any docking stations other than for ipods. Are they interchangeable?

There are at least a hundred different brands and versions of mp3 players right now and we would have to know specifically which brand/version you have to help you find one.

Most do not have a dock, but you can find one for some specific mp3 players. If you have to plug the USB cable to the side (not the bottom) of your mp3 player, there probably is not a dock for it.

flowerz, when you say "dock" do you mean like a boombox or portable stereo system that you can plug a generic mp3 player into?

As long as the stereo system has audio-in capabilities, you can plug an mp3 player or even a portable cd player that has an earphone jack (audio out) into it.

So if the stereo system has an audio-in jack that looks like an earphone jack, you get a cable that has that size of plug on both ends.

If the stereo system has standard stereo jacks (RCA), you can buy a cable that has a headphone jack on one in (to plug into the mp3 player) and the RCA plugs on the other end.

Many of the boomboxes and stereo systems that have iPod docks also have the generic audio-in capabilities. The other mp3 players don't integrate as much as an iPod will, but on those boxes you can at least pipe the sound through them (for the iPod, most of these boxes have charging capabilities and some have remotes that control the iPod).

(OF course I used boomboxes and portable stereo systems as an example...there are other devices with this capability - portable DVD players, alarm clocks, or just a small speaker system).

My children all own Sansa mp3 players, made by sandisk, of one sort or another, I think the cord plugs into the bottom.

Yes when I say "dock" I mean a portable stereo that the mp3 player can plug into.

Oh...ok, so you should be good to go as long as you find a portable stereo with an input that looks like a headphone input (don't confuse it with the headphone input itself) or one with stereo inputs. Just get the right cord from Radio Shack or somewhere similar, should be in the $5 range.

For example, this Sony boombox (similar to one Dear Hubby gave me for my birthday last year) has dual-audio inputs in the back. For that, you'd just get the cord with the headphone jack on one end (to go into the mp3 player) and the dual-audio plugs on the other end (to go into the boombox).

There is a dock available for the Sansa, but there isn't a lot of information about it. And, wow, it's expensive for what it is.
