Have you ever sat there, wondering if there was an angel watching over you? If you believe that there is, does he hear everything that you say? My latest story gently raises the question, will angels speak to us?
This story also addresses the difficult issue of God's apparent verbal silence.

Check out "Speak to Me," available at Faithwriters.com.

God bless!

God's silence is not that hard to understand. It is only a verbal silence, the Bible has much to say about everything that we need to know. If only people would listen to that.

I wonder why that is... the Old Testament has numerous instances of seemingly verbal communication. Why stop now?

God does speak to people verbally. Some more than others. If you don't believe He can, He won't to you. If you don't believe it, it won't happen. He's only spoken to me verbally one time that I can recall. He spoke my name. He's also spoken to me through others by a word and to me in dreams, sometimes directly and sometimes through allegory.
He may have spoken to you that way too.
I think sometimes dreams we think are "pizza" dreams that seem wierd are from God. He spoke to Pharoah that way and others. Also, listen to the wind. He speaks through the wind. My wife just said that. She has a prophetic gift.
Also, the most important time God speaks to my heart is in prayer in the early morning. I have received many words from Him while deep in prayer. You need to go there.

Mark, thanks for your input! I've often wondered about this subject. I've only recently begun to hear from God in my mind (in specific words, as opposed to ideas and general direction) and i've often doubted whether or not I even hear that. It's hard to claim he doesn't at least speak to people mentally though, because I have had several VERY distinct instances when his voice was blatantly obvious, although never verbal. I've been praying for that for years, but it hasn't happened yet. I've also had prophetic dreams, but that's another topic...

What do you mean by "pizza" dreams?

Beautiful story! Yes, I believe that God speaks verbally to believers. I've not experienced this, but I know people who have. He usually speaks to me through the bible, impressions (a "knowing" in my spirit), dreams, and often through other people. I never really thought about God speaking to me verbally before this -- I guess I always thought it if he chose to speak to me that way it would be cool, but if not that is too cool because I'll hear Him soon enough!

good thoughts, rgod! (And thanks for the feedback! I ADORE feedback, especially detailed feedback.)

I've had generally the same experience that you describe - "knowing" in my spirit.

No. The reason being, God is compassionate. A possible reason, if spoken to by God then the stakes go up. Same with miracles. Being Calvinist, God don't speak to me but i have heard Penticostal preachers say on TV God speaks to them. Perhaps they should be consulted. As for me, i mostly listen to the voices in my head. They are called thoughts. Am not aware of any input from outside sources either from God or the devil. According to Einstein, God is subtle, but He is not malicious.

I believe God speaks to us all the time through His Holy Spirit, but its usually not so much an audible voice as a "quiet whisper." He can speak as a quiet voice you hear in your heart while you're praying, through other people, through dreams and prophetic words, or through His word (which I believe is the most common way He speaks). Of course God can speak in any way He wants. (He did speak through a donkey in the Bible and the Bible tells us God is the same yesterday and today). However, I think some people need to use a little more discernment, because the enemy's biggest scheme is mimicking the voice of God. If the message distracts you from seeking God or does not align with scripture, chances are it isn't God. If you're not sure, just ask God and He'll help you discern the truth.

Also He's given us all different giftings (Romans 12:6-8) so where God might speak to one through visions, he might speak to another through phophesy. However, I think just hearing God speak to us through His word or through prayer is meant for everyone and is important in our relationship with God. Sometimes people do hear Him more clearly than others. I think mainly this just comes through spending more time with Him. It's just like hearing a friend's voice on the phone. The better you know the person, the more distinctly you recognize their voice. I think that mostly God speaks in quiet whispers though, more than the loud, thunderous voice from heaven. I think that too often we get distracted by signs and wonders and can start seeking God only to see what miracles He can perform, rather than seeking God for who He is and because He tells us to seek Him.

I really think God wants all of us to hear is voice, and it's as simple as seeking, knocking and askig. For several years in my walk with God I didn't feel that I had ever really heard Him speak to me. I started praying and asking for Him to help me hear His voice, and He did. Staying grounded in the word is important too, since this is one of the main ways God speaks.

Anyway, I'm rambling, lol. To sum it up, yes, God does speak, but in many different ways and mostly in quiet whispers. :0)
