OK. I have a new dog. YAY!!!

But how do I get her smell off my hands???? I've washed them a couple times and still smell it? Any tricks? Or just get used to it???

I do NOT want my house or me to smell like dog. I think it's VERY unproffessional and can be offensive to some.

Hey there - you can purchase shampoo that actually 'fights' the odor - online or in warehouse dog and pet 'superstores'. Stay away from the cheaper brands - alot of the better ones actualy are concentrated and apply with a 5 to 1 (water/shampoo) or something like that.

Some breeds actually have more odor than others - for example, Siberian Huskies hardly smell at all and are kind of self-cleaning - other breeds, like GSD, can smell quite heavily if not bathed regular.

What kind of dog do you have? I'm just surprised you say you can still 'smell' the dog after washing your hands several x's.........

You've washed your hands - have you bathed your dog?

Bathed the dog Monday night.
Today's the first day I've really noticed it.

Maybe I'm just sensitive to it today???

She's an Australian Cattle Dog Mix (probably with Aust. Shepherd and maybe a terrier).

Oh - OK - I actually have an aussie cross myself Some dogs are more 'oily' than others and this would be that type of breed - wonderful and very smart and very loyal also, so a little odor is not the worst.

Try that special shampoo - make sure you rinse really well as leaving some shampoo in can cause dry skin. Also, check her ears - sometimes a dog can have an infection in the ears which causes odor. If it is the ears, one quick whiff will indicate if there is a problem there. You can even buy doggie 'perfume' but I would stay away from that.

We also use carpet freshner (powder) sometimes and leave it sit for about 1/2 an hour before vacuuming.......we want to change to tile anyway, but all that helps. Glad to answer any other questions about your pup - I've had dogs almost my entire life and have bred and shown and helped run a kennel, so I have alot of knowledge about them.

Hope this helps!

Thank you.

She's very new to our family. We just got her on Saturday. She's been thoroughly checked over for any health issues, and we have a vet visit scheduled for Friday. (And obedience classes Start Sept 6)

We also have a carpet fresh powder we use when we vacuum. The house we rent had some very serious odor issues when we first moved in. She won't be allowed on the furniture, so that will help with the odor.

I didn't wash my hands immediately after playing with her this morning. Maybe I just need to wash sooner. I'm also sick, so I could be sensitive to it today.

Well, you are welcome! I think that shampoo will help - I have more than one dog and one of my other dogs - a big Bullmastiff cross - is a tad odiferous from time to time and this shampoo helps him!

Maybe those other odours do contribute - glad to hear you have had her all checked out and starting obedience. Hope she does well.

I don't mind in you pm me if you have other questions - I have done quite a bit of vet/tech type stuff as well, so feel free if you have any concerns. thanks
