Has anyone seen Pastor Ed Young on USA early Sunday mornings? Our 13 year old came across him one week and we really enjoyed his sermon. I signed up for his daily email devotionals and read the 'What we Believe' type spot on their church website. Any thoughts, good or bad? Anyone know their affiliation? I'm quite impressed with what I've seen.

Both Ed Youngs (father and son) are solid and Evangelical. The elder Ed Young is pastor of the 2nd Baptist Church of Houston. The younger one is more trans-denominational, somewhat Baptistic in doctrine and background but not strictly Baptist. I am sure there is a reason the younger one does not pastor a Baptist church, but I cannot say what that reason is.

Thanks to all! His teachings, from what I've read and heard, are soundly Baptist and very evangelical. The church 'beliefs' are right on the money, too. I tend to be very cautious who I listen to or which author I read and knew one of you would know. A little leaven........ And, yes, it is Jr. Great devotionals that are geared to our daily Christian walk, btw.

Our church used to go to his yearly ministers convention. They stopped when he had Oneness heretic TD Jakes as a guest speaker.

Ouch is right! Thanks all! This is why I'm so very careful! His devotions are short, aimed at Christians and seem fine. Oneness, TD Jakes and all that new age junk decides it for ME.

Say what you want but Ed Jr. ain't in the same league as his Dad. Ed Sr. is an awesome preacher and very sound in doctrine. Jr. tries to hard to be hip, cool, modern etc.. Listen and watch Jr. if you like but be careful.

I like Dr. Young, Sr. His teaching is very solid but Jr. not so much.

It seems highly inappropiate to me to proclaim from the pulpit the he and his wife are gonna "do it" for the next 7 nights straight. We'll probably hear MORE from this man in the future, only perhaps in a different light.

I would assume he would have had kids in the sanctuary. Sickening. Hey Ed, how about having couples read the BIBLE for 7 days straight to improve their marriages? I know, that's soooo legalistic

Hello dianetavegia I've heard Ed Young a few times and thought he was okay, although I prefer more literal teaching from the Bible. The things he says could be used in a Psychology lecture and few would know the difference. His latest gimmick is designed to help marriages. He has a double bed on the stage as a prop for his topic. He is urging married couples to have sex every night for a period of time to improve their marriage. How crass. Marriage is God's affair. He makes couples to become one with each other. By doins sex things, one is starting with the flesh, hoping the mind and spirit will be positively affected. But God's way is to speak the man's spirit. That way the mind and the felsh are positively affected. So, as to your question. No. I personally would not attend Ed Young's church.

Paul writes about married couples submitting to one another and meeting their partner's needs so that they don't give into temptation. Now, is Paul crass for writing that? The divorce rate in this country is astronomical, with infidelity being a major cause of this. Now, if a pastor wants to encourage this behavior between married couples to help prevent divorces in his congregation, then what's the problem?

Now, if a pastor wants to encourage this behavior between married couples to help prevent divorces in his congregation, then what's the problem? Well, first of all having sex for a week because your pastor told you to won't solve any of the deep seated issues in a bad marriage. This is just something Mr. Young dreamed up to get attention. No where in the Bible does it say sex is the cure for a marriage that is in severe trouble. Besides being in poor taste, having a bed on the stage just feeds the hunger for entertainment for the type of crowd his church attracts. I think I also remember him having a corvette on the stage before...they're all just props for a show.

But it could help couples whose marriages aren't in trouble yet. I'll agree that the props may be unnecessary. Incidentally, what on Earth did he have a corvette on stage for? I haven't heard of this guy...

He used it for his RPM (Recognizing Potential Mates) series which included such riveting topics as: "Week One: Who's Behind the Wheel? Week Two: What's in the Trunk? Week Three: Don't Go Off Road Week Four: High-Pressure Sales Tactics Week Five: "No Return" Policy Week Six: Making the Right Choice" A topical teacher's dream, huh?!!?
