How do you talk to your children about the topic of "global warming"? Do you distinguish between environmentalism and stewardship?

We distinguish between the two, and encourage our children to be good stewards of the earth and resources. Waste not, want not. Be thankful for the blessings of our Creator. For us, environmentalism is born out of fear and reactionary, stewardship is proactive and long-term.

I believe in global warming, but I do not believe it is man made. I believe it is all part of the cycle and probably has to do with the sun's cycles. Mars is also in a warming cycle. We talk about the scientific evidence for these conclusions.

We also talk about being good stewards of all we have, including the earth as a whole. We talk about it in daily life and in our science lessons.

I am with cynthia. I believe solar warming is real and has to do with solar activity, not man's activity.

Ohhh I like that; solar warming. Did you come up with that on your own?

My kids were all in high school when this stuff hit the media. First I said, Wait a minute. Hasn't Al Gore read the Bible? God is going to destroy the earth the next time it's destroyed (same as the last time it was destroyed.) Man can't do it, unless it's God plan and He makes them do it.

Secondly, the hottest summer I know of was 1966, when I burned my hand on a plastic trash can (very memorable from the shocking pain.) The global warming people don't explain why it's global warming now when it's cooler than it was then.

There's a book about things you won't learn in school. One of it's 50 points is "History didn't start the year you were born." Global warming extremists (and global cooling extremists) are annoyed by history.

Finally, we talked about how certain groups are trying to use global warming to take our freedoms away, such as the right to drive our cars and have low taxes.

Global warming is a great opportunity to study logic.

I see there isn't really a need to teach environmentalism or a seperate "green" curriculum, the Bible is the first textbook on taking care of His planet. Just simple good stewardship is something that we've been teaching from day one and it covers the bases: treating God's creation with respect and being thankful for our blessings. These principles can be translated into so many practical applications for today and the future.
