This was way too hilarious not to post. In response to CBN's call for a national day of prayer for the economy: http://www.cbn.com/700club/guests/bios/cindy_jacobs102008.aspx A group of (probably well intentioned) Christians praying at wall street picked the most hilariously inept way of staging this: http://scienceblogs.com/pharyngula/2008/10/wheres_charlton_heston_when_yo.php Yes this is just a blog, and yes I was suspicious as well at first (it was probably staged by Godless liberals!), before I found this on the CBN website: quote:
“We are going to intercede at the site of the statue of the bull on Wall Street to ask God to begin a shift from the bull and bear markets to what we feel will be the 'Lion’s Market,' or God’s control over the economic systems,” she said. “While we do not have the full revelation of all this will entail, we do know that without intercession, economies will crumble.” Not that I'm against sincere prayer over the economy, mind you, as we need all the prayer we can get. But this Pharisaical display of showy street prayer on the part of CBN totally deserves the ridicule it's brought on itself, especially since it seems they are more concerned with saving Wall Street and glorifying wealth than in praying for those hurt by the economic downturn. It's stuff like this that makes me certain God has a sense of humor.

I guess that's why at my age, if I were to compelled to respect any prominent Christian leader today, Pat Robertson won't be anywhere near on the top of my list... and that's at best case scenario!

ORIGINAL: henny It's stuff like this that makes me certain God has a sense of humor. Henny, I really want to agree with you on this pont, but I have a feeling that God is not very amused by these kinds of stunts His people are into. Praying for the economy is one thing. It becomes a whole different story if it is done before a statue that symbolizes the economy. I believe that some people in the OT did much the same thing and ended up getting punished for it. God wants what is good and beneficial for us, but (IMO) I do not believe He will long tolerate being put in second place to the economy, or anyone or anything else, especially among His people (His people=those who profess Him to be their Lord).

I also think the prayer was misguided and in an inappropriate spot... but how do you explain this week's gain in the market? Largest one week gain since 1974!

As volatile as the maket continues to be, however, I would say that this is a good time to get out of the equity market and put your 401K into something a little more stable like CDs. The only way for your money to grow in a market like this is to be on top of it every day and take steps to minimize losses in the event of another downturn. The Lord may have given many folks an opportunity to protect their retirement savings. If you do nothing, you deserve whatever happens next.

The Lord may have given many folks an opportunity to protect their retirement savings. If you do nothing, you deserve whatever happens next. I would say that this is a wake-up call for those who have less than 25 years before retirement. If you plan on retiring in the next 25 years, you should have at least 30% of your money in CDs, treasuries, or TIPS. Is it also a wake-up call from God? Maybe. It seems that every material asset on earth right now is a wasting asset. TIPS don't really keep up with inflation. Neither do treasury-bonds, nor cash. Corporate bonds? Just look at what happened to lehman? And stocks being safe? Haha, funny! Nothing is safe right now, except the treasures we are storing up in heaven. How's Pat doing right now? Has he started calling for the assassination of David Einhorn or any other short-sellers yet?

I am sure God has the same sense of humor as when Moses came down from Mt Sinai with the 10 commandments and they were worshipping the golden calf. i am sure God has the same sense of humor with King Nebucadnezzar as when the king was strolling about his patio admiring all the works "he had done" and as the word was still in his mouth, God struck him and turned him for the next 7 years into some aminal-like creature. the seraphims/cherubims around the throne of God do one thing all day - they say "holy holy holy" i am sure they are lacking such "sense of humor" that peopel find amusing to disgrace the holy and righteous and living God. I do not find that amusing Henny,, i find it disgracing the name of our most high and holy pure Lord and God.
