Can pears be frozen? I was given a large box full and I don't have any large canning jars, so I'm trying to find ways of using them.

I already made recipe I found online for pear jam. It's bright lime green in color because it called for the addition of lime jello. I don't know if anyone will eat it.

Pears can be frozen, although they will be very soft, so probably best used in smoothies and such. My book says to poach them for 1 1/2 minutes in syrup (1lb sugar to 1 3/4 pints water after quartering, peeling and coring them and then to freeze them in the syrup.

Personally, I'd be inclined to quarter, peel and core them and dip them in lemon juice and then open freeze them.

Have you thought about drying them.

I would offer to post a couple of recipes for preserves ~ do you have any jars?

You could also make a pear sauce much like applesauce and freeze that quite successfully.
