GM announced in early June that rising gas prices and a weak economy had doomed the plant at Stroop Road and Kettering Boulevard and its 1,100 remaining employees.

GM Moraine

by the numbers

$17 million: Amount GM paid in local and state taxes in 2006, the latest figures available

$27.55: Average employee hourly wage, not counting benefits

What a great sacrifice these people have made to save mother earth. Nancy Pelosi must be proud of them because there will be less ugly dinosaur fuel that will pollute the air. People losing there jobs and probably losing there homes if they can't pay there bills is a small price to pay to reduce pollution.

Them getting fired 2 days before Christmas will be good for them because many believe this should be a secular society. If they can't celebrate Christmas, well this plant closing will kill 2 birds with one stone.

Thank you Al Gore! Global warming is real because he says so? And, since the government believes it's their job to fix it, they mandate how car manufacturers are to build cars, diverting the free market.

The green movement is, pure and simple, socialism. Why have we fallen for all this?
