God talks about each one being given a unique plan for their life.

How do we know we're doing what God had planned for us?

If we haven't got a clue - then v12 is helpful - but how does this actually work out in practice?

Thoughts?

If God wants you to do something for Him in your life He'll make certain you get the message.

Well, it says "plans" - plural - so it's probably unique. I think the "understand how God thinks about you and then He'll listen to you" is pretty clear that that's how God works, no matter where you are.

The context of this verse is a letter Jeremiah sent to the elders of Israel who'd been carried off into captivity to Babylon - you can argue that God's ways don't change through the ages, but it also says to build houses and live in them, take wives, have kids, etc. because they were going to be in Babylon a while. You and I aren't in Babylon and most Christians this last century never went there (although some surely lived in the neighborhood - Babylon is in Iraq).

God gives us the broad brushstrokes: do justice, love mercy, walk humbly with your God. Don't sin, love God and the brethren, etc. That will keep us plenty busy, but I think God guides our steps through the day through the people and opportunities He drops in our laps as we go about our lives.

If an opportunity comes that means you have to sin to get it, it's not from God.

Charles Stanley says God expects(darn spellcheck!)obedience and allegiance to Him but He only grants us the next step in experience. That's the essence of vulnerability. God's plan for any life is obedience; how we respond to His Plan(Will)for us will determine whether our life is 'well lived' rather then living in our limited exceptions. Probably God doesn't have a hard 'script' that would play out(however he knows our end and beginnings)but based on our responses to events, obedience opportunities, disappointment or disobedience.

Oh, yeah! And if you don't get it the first time, He will try and get your attention again! My youth pastor that I had for two years always put it like this, "If God has something He is trying to tell you He will whisper it in your ear. If that doesn't work, He tap you on the shoulder. If you're still not listening, he send you a burning bush. And if you still don't get the message, He reaches for the 2x4...don't let God have to go to the extreme measure of having to thump you to get your attention!" A comical way to put it, but the point is, if you are in the center of God's will, you will know when He wants you to do something!

Yes God can see what we can be like, if we but be in Christ, and yes the oppurtunities are endless. But before any of those things can come to pass, we have to be in Christ, for doing all the right things and going to all the seemingly right places and saying the most loving things will not save us, if in fact we do not have love and faith in Christ.

Once in Chirst we can literally do anything we like for Christ for He will literally through our love for Him actually gives us our desires to do so for Him. So whether I turn left or right at the coner of the road I do it all for the glory of Christ. If I be rich or poor I praise God for Christ. If my endevours be successful or not I do the same, for nothing, as scripture says, can actually seperate us from the love of God in Christ. This is the will of God and His plans for those who love Him.

For those who worry about, if they should do this or that, or go there or here, or what is the will of God we can only say , know God (seek first the kingdom of God and all these things shall be given to you).

Many have caused themselves harm by literally putting the horse beore the cart in attempting to do things in order to know God.

Many parts of the Word tell us about His plan for our lives. Other details He will reveal; I am sure!
