Unless my husband vetoes it, we have suddenly named our school. It is heretofore called Aletheia Academy. Aletheia means truth in Greek. I just love this name. TL helped me pick it out.

Well, I don't have kids that I home school...

but....

I was home schooled in 11th and 12th grade, and my mom let me pick the name, and we named it Emmanuel Academy.

When I tutored the 2 kids, their mom couldn't think of a name, so she let me pick it..and I picked Heritage Christian School.

Another homeschooling mom in our church couldn't think of a name, so she asked me for an idea, and I picked Lighthouse Christian, partly because of the christian meaning, and partly because their dad had a job in pools. But now her kids go to a christian school (she was in ill health, and home schooling became too much for her, plus even though I know home schooling is good for a lot of kids, hers are actually thriving far more in school... but that's really not the point of this thread).

This reminds me of a funny story.

My bff, who is now married with 2 children, and is 32, was homeschooled from 2nd grade on up, well until college. Back then, homeschooling was quite rare, and home schooling families were warned not to advertise what they were doing, and advised strongly to name their school, and then have their kids answer with the school name when asked where they went to school. So, my friend's mom named their school Faith Christian. Then someone asked them where they went to school, and they told them Faith Christian. They saw the same person a couple weeks later, and the person said to them, "We got a flyer from your school." Apparently there was a "real" school of the same name in the area.

haha That would be pretty funny. I deliberately chose a name that is not common. I went on Crosswalk Bible Study Tools, punched in "truth" and used the concordance feature to find the Greek word it was translated from.

NC requires you to name your home school.

We sat down and came up with three names as a family then let the kids vote.

The names were all about our "location" none of them had a street name or town name in them. The kids chose Little Creek Home School. I was asking them in May what the two that lost were and not a single child could remember them. I think one was Little River Academy (the little river is only a short distance up the road but not close enough to identify our location)

I really think they chose little creek home school because there is a little creek in our back yard. the creek is nameless as it is sometimes there and sometimes not.

It is nice to have a school name when one graduates students. A Name to put on the diploma- NICE! We also had a custom seal made up to seal the diploma with. It says "Little Creek Home School" in the top of the outter circle and Vivere Cognoscentis Est(to live, learning is or Living is learning). The 2nd circle says Faith Family Freedom in the bottom and Est. 1997 around the top and N.C. in the very center.

Does it count if we have never actually put the name on anything?

We are going to have a custom seal made up too. I want to be able to emboss diplomas, transcripts and whatever else with it. I like Ezri's Faith, Family, Freedom and established date. That's really great.

Yes, if you seriously consider it to be the name of your school, what does it matter if you've written it on anything or not?

We are done homeschooling now, but ours was called Providence Christian School. We chose that name because God led us every step of the way to bringing our kids home. He provided so many opportunities that caused us to examine what we wanted and how to accomplish it. It was His provision that enabled us to do what we did.

We had letterhead printed up and had that printed on diplomas too.

We have not officially named ours. I unofficially named ours "Hamilton Christian Academy" (our last name) for Homeschool Tracker, but not sure if I will keep it that (just got the program and have not used it much yet).

I have also been a live in nanny 3 times, although the 2nd two times were for the same family. Both families home schooled. The first family called their school "The 3R's rainbow school," because they had 3 girls whose names started with R. But then they had 5 more kids, none of whom had R names. So, they changed the R to standing for reading, 'writin, 'rithmetic.

The second family did not name their school, although their home school group had a clever acronym

G.reater
R. ome (not Italy, a town in the U.S)
A.rea
C.hristian
E.ducators

I'm on thinking of adding homeschool to the name: Aletheia Homeschool Academy. I kind of like that too.

The reason I decided on this is that I've had a couple times of being asked for a school name and thought it would be nice to have one. Another reason is that TL is going to be graduating in the next few years, so I decided that since she is entering the high school years, it would be nice to name the school now. In the future, when you has to fill anything out that asks for school name, she can put the name of our school. I also want to make a seal that can be used to emboss important documents. I've heard that some people have trouble when their official documents are not embossed, as some places don't consider certain documents, like transcripts, to be official if they are not embossed. I like to be ahead of the game, rather than behind. Better to be prepared now than think of this at the last minute.

My senior year I was under an umbrella school, so I have a diploma that says "Grace Christian School."

Eagle Mountain Campus of H.I.S Institute

We have also called it just Eagle Mountain Academy

H.I.S. Institute is the name of our umbrella school.

Eagle Mountain Farms is the name of this property from the days when this was a working farm.

That's a good idea. It wouldn't really matter as much here, because a lot of our home schoolers just take the CHSPE (California High School Proficiency Exam, like a step up from the GED-I actually have that too, in addition to the Grace Christian diploma), and go to a 2 year college, and then use that transcript to go the 4 year college, and they still graduate on time, but if your dau. wants to go straight to the 4 year college, I think that's wise.

Not really. When I had to put a school name on things, I would put Ourlastname Homeschool. Real creative.

I wouldn't consider it theft! You don't live near us, so it's not like anyone would get us mixed up. We could start a trend.

Well, you certainly have a lot of material in this thread, now.

Considering your username, I think ____your last name's___ garden would be cute.

My guess is that your user name stems from the book by Raymond and Dorothy Moore of the same name? yes?

If so, you could also call it Moore Academy in their honor.
