I'm reading The Giver by Lois Lowry for a Children's Literature class I'm taking this semester. I really like it so far (don't worry about spoilers), but would love to hear what others thought of it or comments you may have.

I read it with my son when he was in 6th or 7th grade and it is just a marvelous, sad, inspirational, wonderful book. What an awesome little story. LOVED it, and cried, as I recall.

I've read The Giver a dozen times. I've also read Gathering Blue and the other one...Messenger, I think. I own all three. Excellent!!! I'm a fan of the author, though. I read many of books as a child in the late 70s and 80s.

I loved the book and can't believe I never read it as a kid. Somehow I missed all of Lois Lowry's books in grade school even though several of them were required for my younger siblings.

Awesome book. I read it in school, and should reread it. I didn't realize that there were sequel(s)
