If you were trying to show a friend to see the truth, to believe in God, where would you start? What, if any scripture would you talk about?

the one i was taught was Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ" there is a tract out there that usese this one.

Another way to approach it is to ask them what they think happens after they die? Then if it is other than a biblical answer, you can talk about the possibility of eternal life (John 3:16) .. just be sure that you include that they must repent of their sins as a part of the discussion.

Many people start new Christians at the gospel of John. He may not be a new Christian but showing him who Christ is and His love for people is a good place to start as well.

Hi tbay:

Trying so convince an unbeliever who God has not drawn is like trying to describe colour to the person born blind. I would suggest letting your light shine through your behaviour and confidence in God - especially during trials.

Every one wants to be on the wining side. Let them know that the all powerful and all loving God is actually your friend. It may sould like foolishness to them at first, but you can cooperate with God through your behavious and attitude as He draws them to Himself.

Regards,
Grenville

Its not clear to me that the friend is seeking some enlightment or you want to show him the way... nothing worse than forcing it on someone. As the previous poster stated, show him through example - as you live your life hopefully the friend will be inticed to ask questions. And even at that point, I suggest baby steps, slow and easy. You start throwing The Gospel in someone's face, they will go running the other way.

My best friend and I have known each other 10 years. He just finally asked a question about my faith. I simply answered what he asked, no more. This led to a wondrous hour long discussion where he finally admitted there may be a God. I was satisified. 10 years ago he was a theist. If I mentioned God, he would walk away. I stand by as his friend to answer questions. Hopefully my example will promt him to do so.

Perhaps your friend is afraid your becoming a christian would make you no longer want to be his/her friend. Maybe you just need to tell him/her that your friendship is important to you , but this is too and that you need him /her to have your back while you are trying your wings. Bless You

I would advise him to re-examine the things that he thinks are real and seek with an open mind the things he thinks are compromised or outdated. I will live Christ to the fullest and enjoy the abundant life He has given me. There is nothing like the living that would draw anyone to Christ Jesus.

I probably would even start with scripture. When your light shines...when people can see a real difference...they are attracted to it. When and if your freind starts to question you on the difference, then go with whatever scripture God leads you to use.

Personally, I kinda like Roman's 12. Or the 23rd Psalm.... one of my favorites.

Blessings

Faith commeth by hearing and hearing by the word of God.

I would start with John 3:15-21

15 that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life. 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."

Explain who God is,
Why we are seperated from God (we are all sinners - note a "non-sinner" cannot be saved. One "must" realize they are a sinner inorder to be saved)
Why we are "condemned already" when we don't put our faith in Christ
How God out of his love and mercy provided a way for us to come to him and have eternal life.

The Romans road is also a good guide to help you. Let me see if I can pull it up from somewhere.

Here is a link. We often mark the passages in our bibles and give them to people we are witnessing to. We don't say "turn to Romans whatever" rather we say "turn to page 1230. Then we go over with them the highlighted area. At the bottom of that page we tell them what page number to turn to next and so on. After we witness to them we give them the marked bible and ask them to please read it.

You may also want to look in your bible (s) you use or your Church material. The Plan of Salvation is usually explained well in those places too.

This isn't a thing from scripture, but its something that really stood out to me when talking to Christians.

I used to get really frustrated when Christians just talked to me about what the Bible says about Jesus/God and assumed that as it said it in the Bible, it was true.

As an atheist, of course, I didn't believe that the Bible WAS true. And as I'd not researched it, as far as I knew the Gospels could have been written centuries after Christ, so could have been total myth.

I raised this point with a member of the Christian Union at my university, and she told me that the Bible matches up with recent archeological discoveries, and that there are more old manuscripts of it than of any other ancient text. But the main thing she said was that the disciples, people who knew Jesus when he was alive, were tortured and killed for believing that Jesus had risen. They would not have insisted that this was true if they weren't sure - if they hadn't seen it for themselves.

This might seem kind of obvious to those of you who've been Christian for ages, or grew up in Christian families, but for me, that was such a revelation. When Ellie told me that, I began reading the Bible, and trying to find out more about it, on the internet and in books.

. I have been a Witness too and one thing for sure, it is not always easy. You can hold a Masters Degree in Theology. Know the Bible from beginning to end, have attended Seminary School, have been a Christian for many years and still with all this there are many who wont listen even when the Truth is plain.

. But A good place to start is about Who GOD is,. Who Needs GOD? And what does GOD want us to do?

The first thing is Genesis 1 verse 1 in the beginning GOD created The Heavens and The Earth. It is the very first thing God wanted us to know where we came from. .

That GOD is our Creator and He has made all things. There is a scripture that says man makes Houses but GOD makes all things. .

Among as GOD being our Creator you should bring him to passages of the New Testament. John 316 for one of them. John 146, Romans 3:23 Romans 6:23 Romans 8:28 and Romans 10:9. Also Romans 5:8

John 3:16 shows that we must believe in GOD’s only Son for everlasting life. John 14:6 shows simply Jesus is the Truth The way and The Life. Romans 3:23 points out that we are all sinners. Romans 6:23 points the wages for them is Death. Romans 5:8 show how GOD Loves us and sent His son to die while we still sinned. Romans 8:28 shows that those who are with GOD all things Good will come together. Romans 10: 9 is that we confess Jesus is The Lord and believe in him. .

These are commonly used scriptures for new beginners. We should not avoid the Truth of the Light

You can also do searches on the Love of GOD. Bible gateway is a good place to search. Put in the word Love. Find some good scriptures to show how much GOD Loves us.

For example in 2 Peter there is a verse that says cast your cares upon GOD because He cares for us. . . See him GOD is Creator. Jesus is the Savior and God is A Loving GOD yet consequences of Hell will come to those who reject GOD. Do not make a strong emphasis of Hell at first. But you can mention it. .

Hell Brimstone teachings scare people off. Yet we need to let others know about Hell as well, but not too pushy. Let them learn about GOD tell them there is a Hell. Get more into Hell when they grasp some about GOD.

I would send him to http://www.romansroad.com.

It is a great place to start. But I would warn you not to get your hopes up if he is not seeking voluntarily. But you should definitely pray about it, seek God first and pray he opens the eyes of your friend.

Good luck and God bless you and your friend.
