David B. Murray and I had a conversation on the Horizon Group nominees going on, so I decided to start a poll. Who is your pick for Horizon Group 2008?

Go Soul'd Out!! I'm pumped that you made the Top 5 especially since the competition is so stiff this year!!

Old Paths was my pick in the first round. Now, since I'm a quartet fan, I'll probably decide between Soul'd Out and Tribute. I haven't seen a concert or heard a complete recording from either, yet.

I am probably going with Crabb Revival...I am a quartet man but haven't heard tribute live yet. I heard soul'd out at Fan Fair but wasn't real impressed with the show..could have just been an off nite for em

I respect your opinion, but anyone who thinks Tanner or any of the guys on here are pandering for votes has absolutely no idea who these guys are or what they are all about. Tanner has been a forums member for months and is on here as friends of ours, not a promoter. Soul'd Out doesn't usually have "off-nights." They sing their hearts out, but they are a young group and have just gotten a new tenor. Give them time and they'll be at the forefront. They're also singing on mainstage at NQC this year...

I hope someday that some people will get to know the real hogfan. Certain comments would not be made if you knew the "man". God knows and that is all that counts.

The Crist Family! I enjoy the music, and I have the "Livin With The Light On " cd and it's pretty good. Other then The Crabbs I can't even tell you a song any other groups sing. I live in Ohio and I have never heard Sould'Out on the radio once. It's kinda strange, since the group is based in Ohio. I'm sure they are a good group but I know in Ohio they are not getting much air-time. So DJ'S play them so I can have a opinion!!! lol...hehehehe

so quick to judge...i've met tanner on several occassions. I was merely giving him a hard time. Also, I have heard sould out on different occassions in concert so I do have the right to voice my opinion. I am not "downing" the group. Here is the deal...singing on the mainstage at quartet convention is just another stage and just another chance to prove singing ability. Their label probably had alot to do with them getting on the mainstage. Let's be honest, what are their hit songs? I can't name one and I am in the Solid Gospel listening area as well as surrounded by three other southern gospel stations. I've heard Tribute several times on the radio as well as Old Paths, Crist Family, Crabb Revival and Aaron and Amanda. As a matter of fact Old Paths new project has been featured twice in my area on Joy FM as well as Paul Heil and on solid gospel. I understand the solid gospel is paid programming but still...i've heard alot about them. Crabb Revival has been here several times and no doubt they are nationally known. I am not picking a fight here...more power to these groups. I do wish that Old Paths was in the final round but they aren't. Guess they are too new right now or just don't appeal to some audiences. anyway...like i said..im not picking a fight...i just figured I could post my opinion on these forums like everyone else

They're also singing on mainstage at NQC this year - the only one from this list to do so... Tyler, Gotta agree with everything you said, but last I checked Tribute and Crist Family are also on the mainstage at NQC this year. Oops, missed Wednesday night's lineup. I edited my post. If the post was just meant to give Tanner a "hard-time" I understand. Either way, there was still the opinion given that they didn't give a quality show. That coupled with a slam didn't bode well...

i've debated on whether or not i should post again in this thread, but then i would feel really dumb if i just sit and watched it go by without chiming in lol so here goes...just to clarify, i was a member on the boards here waaay before i "went fulltime" in SG...i joined back when i was in college because i was a huge fan of the industry (which i STILL am) lol ...so i think it would be pretty hypocritical to quit posting and continuing friendships here just because i "sing SG for a living"...i love seeing "board members" at our concerts because its not often we get to sing to familar faces! it's ALWAYS awesome to have someone in the crowd who actually loves and cares about you!! but having said all that, i'm active in this particular thread because yes, it involves our group, and because we consider the crist family and tribute to be our very good friends!! and as for trying to get votes, this thread is barely a fraction of all the votes that singingnews will get from the magazine subscribers...and if i remember right, the old paths ran away with the online poll here last time and sadly they didn't make the top 5 even though they definitly deserved it... we are not on a label, we do 90% of our own bookings, and we dont throw a lot of money away on radio...that's just not how we are...and right now that's the way we like it lol! God is using us how He wants to use us and we're doing our best to be willing vessells for Him!! the last 2 weekends we were out on the road, TWELVE people accepted Christ as their personal savior during the invitations at our concerts! Praise the Lord!! i promise you, the groups in this category care more about winning the lost than winning people's votes...i can say that because i know them and i know their hearts! as the old song says, "ain't that what it's all about?!" haha wow i don't think i've ever had a post that long!! i think it's a new personal record lol
