It's costing less and less to fill up these days. Where is that extra money going for you? Are you driving more to compensate? Spending more on other things? Quitting your second job?
Let's talk about how we are coping with falling gas prices.

since I drive a van I am trying to combine trips more.
ETA: I am also considering moving closer to church/work/my parents. they are all real close to each other. My parents are probably 2 miles from my work and the church is half way between. However, I would likely not get someone to rent to me and never find a place big enough for my family.

Good question Lisa!
Around here - we are driving less, cutting back on non-essentials (which unfortunately includes lots of fun things possibly including our family vacation to Minnesota this summer), and hubby is looking for a new job closer to home- but wouldn't be looking had he not been laid off. We will also soon have to dip into our trip savings to simply get by. It's seriously NO fun being laid off.
We will not be moving unless absolutely neccessary. I am looking into hiring myself out as a tutor this summer for elementary level children, and possibly taking in more scrapbooking work for other people, but lots of people I know are cutting back on those things as well. We have also eliminated tennis, golf, and swimming lessons this summer because the cost of gas is just too much to justify having to drive roughly 25 miles round trip to get to these FREE lessons.
So we are coping - Not a lot of fun - but we'll make it. God has never failed to provide for us before and altough it HURTS sometimes, we have always come out better on the other side.

I'm okay for now. I got rid of the suv and my new car only uses 10 gallons a week, which is about the best I can do. I fill up once a week in a smaller tank instead of twice for a bigger tank.
I pay about 60-90 less a month in gas. So the gas budget is okay for now.
That's just to work/back and short trips locally. If there was a gas shortage or something I could walk/ride the bike around town on the weekends. Boss said he might be able to get us to work 4 X 10 shifts so that would be nice.
I rent so if I really comes down to it and I have the same job and knew for sure I would be working there for the next year or two I could move by my work and ride my bike or walk or take the bus. I may try to work part time in the winter to try to pay the car off sooner. The housing market / job market is pretty bad right now here so I am glad I don't own a house that won't sell.

We really can't drive any less than we do. I commute an hour one way to school and my husband drives 30 minutes or so to work....those things can't be cut back. Other than normal errands in town(which we try to do all at one time), and going to church and things, we really don't go many extra places to cut back on. At least I'm out of school for the summer now...that'll help.

It comes from our excess income and means less added to savings each month. We haven't charged gas, or dipped into savings, but we don't put as much away every month as we used to.
We're planning to buy a new car in the fall and we'll definitely be looking more at gas mileage than any other feature.

We are combining our errands so we aren't traveling as often. I don't take the kids out and about for the fun of it.
The extra money seems to be coming from things like online subscriptions to stuff that we used to have, going out for meals, and tat kind of stuff. I just wish that the prices for everything else hadn't risen so much as well. It has been really painful and a little scary.

Well I picked these 3: I am getting another job that pays more(only because DH got a PT job besides his FT job-plus I work PT)
I am supplementing my existing income(see above)
My wages are rising as gas prices rise, so it's not an issue for me.( did just a get a small)
Plue we combine errands, as in DH goes to the store on his way home from work, etc. Our van is mostly used for me to drive to and from work and when we drive to Indy.

I was trying to think of ways to cut back today. We have to make trips to the next town over at least twice a week. Dh has to drive back and forth to work in his car and extra driving for work besides commuting to his main location is compensated. We were spending about $70 every week and a half in our van...there are times when it's more often than that. I decided today that I am going to try to stick to that budget. I'll only put $70 in my van and set a date when I can get more gas. If we run out before then, unless there's an emergency,we just won't drive. I don't know if I can stick to it, but I intend to try. I've also upped my per trip grocery spending hoping to cut back on how often I go to the store.

We moved closer to work, although it wasn't because of gas prices, (but it certainly helped!) and we also try to cut down on our driving. We had something yesterday we were wanting to go get, but we postponed it until today because we were going to be going right by Walmart on our way to something else anyway, so we can get it then instead. There's not too much we can do except combine trips, but if they get much higher we may have to drop some of the kids' activites. I'm also hoping to supplement our income next year and start a part-time business.

We fill up on an average of once a month. Dh received a raise Wed. so I guess that covers it for awhile.

I have cut down on my driving I can walk most places in town and I'm not employed. The only regular weekly trips are to church(3 mi. round trip; a tank of gas lasts me a month, easily.)
I am using credit to purchase gas but I buy my account off, monthly.

We combine trips when we can. We're trying to sell my husband's truck and buy a small car for him to go to work (45 minutes one way). Spending less on other things. My husband works on cars for "extra" income. And praying gas prices come back down soon. Our budget cannot sustain this for long and there already was little to cut out. If it gets bad, we may have to move somewhere that HUD will pay for...we know we qualify, but haven't used it.

That's us too Donna. Hubby is out of school for the summer, thank goodness, so he's down to driving 150 miles a day three days a week instead of seven days a week. That will help quite a bit.
We put enough of our stimulus check into the bank to cover his gas for the rest of the summer, I hope. If it goes up a lot more though, it won't last that long. But hopefully it'll last until his fall school money deposits, then a big chunk of that will go toward gas for the fall.
As for me, I go to the grocery store and to church. That's it. I'm so thankful for the internet so I can have someone other than a 3 yo to "talk" to on a regular basis.

It’s the old axiom of supply and demand that drives the market.
We were first warned in the 1970's when we had an energy crisis. It has long been known that there is a finite amount of sweet crude in the ground, and yet people have not taken either into consideration.
Supplies are dwindling while use is on the increase, so prices will more than likely continue to climb.
Our solutions:
We changed our vehicles last year for those that have better mpg. We drive less and use bicycles more. My motorcycle also gets better mpg than most cars.
Oil will dry up, and costs will continue to rise.

We drive my car more, as I get better milage.
I work closer to home, so I am paying the same amount. but know that it is at $4.00/gal I had to change my budget and we have less to go to our savings.
We have not other debt. So it mostly comes from our savings. but we also don't get to do our day trips, as they cost too much money now.
Both my husband and i have 1999 cars, that will drive for a long time, but when we do buy new cars, they will get better milage. But it won't be for a while.
We may buy a cheap low milage car for my husband to drive, but his commute is only 5 miles each way, I don't think it makes sense.

To be brutally honest ... I have absolutely no idea.
My hours/wages just got cut at work ... so I am debating which is less important ... food, utilities or gas. Of course, if I don't have gas, I have no money for one of the above ...
Right now I am trying to work my side business (pampered chef) to make up for the lost income. If that doesn't kick in .. and soon ... I am going to seek a job ... any job ... preferably one within 5 miles of my house, that I can do on the weekends.

I take the bus most places so the rising gas prices don't effect me directly...I do give tours to the elementery students. A a few of the poorer schools have canselled because they can't afford the buses.

I'm a school bus driver, and the gas prices have really affected what's done around here. It's going to get really interesting next year.

Some areas in Minnesota are considering four 8 hour days for school next year. That would eliminate 20% of the cost of gas. I think it's a great idea!

wow...that's a long day for little kids, but I can see the appeal of cutting out a day of bussing and gas usage.
Because of the distance I commute to school, and my husband's tools he has to have for work, public transportation or biking/walking isn't an option for us. But we're already seeing a huge relief with school being out for the summer for me. It cut 360 miles a week off our gas money! Won't last for long, but it's sure welcome at the moment.

We also ride our bike for errands if we are going to pick up one or two things. But we did that before because it was good exercise.
