We have indoor/outdoor carpeting glued onto the steps going up to our house. Most of the carpeting is fine, but just along the bottom edge where the carpet touches the ground it soaks up water and has become moldy. Is there some way to kill the mold and clean it out of the carpet?

I think I'd agree with Harvie. If it's going to continue getting wet, the problem will persist. Not knowing much about the product you are talking about, and not knowing how wet it gets on a regular basis, and not knowing the color.... well, I can't really think of any answers. Normally when I see mold I try to kill it with a product that claims to kill mold, and I try to keep the area as dry as possible.

Yeah, if it's molding, I would get rid of it completely.

I would toss it too! Try replacing it with something else. There have got to be rubberized non-slip strips or something at your local hardware store. Outside our front door I have rubber mat that I can just spray off with the garden hose when it gets to dirty. Garsy

get rid of it. Bleach will hide the mold, but doesn't really kill it...and bleach on the carpeting might have other undesirable side effects.

If you really want to keep the carpeting, I was told that amonia will kill mold, but like someone else mentioned before, you are going to always have that problem and will have to clean it often, but if you don't mind, then try that.
