A Deleware reported recently asked us a question and we wanted to get your feedback to forward on to him. Let us know what you think!

With all the layoffs and fears attached to the downturn, how do you feeling about this Thanksgiving?

Are you making special efforts to connect with family?

Are you feeling something unique this year in your own life?

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Nothings really changed.

We all live in the same area so there is no travel expenses.

We never had extravagant gifts to begin with.

More thankful for the provisions that God has given. Other than that about the same.

No, my family is getting together like every year.

It's hard to put into words what I sense. I do sense that times are going to be tougher but am at peace knowing that God is in control and He is our provider no matter what the circumstances turn out to be. It is an opportunity to get back to what matters most in life. My prayer is that God will cleanse His church so that all of the junk theology and never ending fads that have come down the pike is weeded out.

You're welcome!

We'll be with wife's family again this year for Thanksgiving. Probably us and the grandchildren for Christmas Eve. Maybe a little less gift giving this year.

I am very thankful to God that I have my job. It's not the best, but it pays for the bills. God is faithful.

Are you making special efforts to connect with family?

My family is only 15 minutes away. I can't away from them.

Are you feeling something unique this year in your own life?

Yes, I've seen God dump His blessings on those who call on His name. It's really cool. i know no matter what happens, God is faithful. He will always take care of me no matter how bad the economy becomes.

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

I believe a spirit of fear is widespread.

I remember what a true reccession is. We are not there yet..and people wonder if we are headed for a depression. Be careful, your fears can be manipulated.

Fear not. Life always has its challenges. The loss of a job is just opportunity.

The holidays will not change for us. Christmas isn't about gifts. Life goes on.

This Thanksgiving will be different in that my wife may not be here because she may have to work (she's an RN). She just had her gall bladder removed so she may get to be home for Thanksgiving. Also my Mom is staying with us through Christmas which will make the holidays special.

My job is feeling a slight crunch, but i don't foresee any layoffs in my near future. We are a fabrication shop and our biggest competitor is China buying up a lot of steel which makes our products more expensive. Basically we have a job, but maybe not any profit sharing.

My husband was just layed off last week.

How will this affect the holidays?

Like many families, we will be spending less on gifts, but other than that-not much has changed.

Tonight 1/3 of the worlds population will go to bed hungry.

What have we got to complain about?

I have never once had to put my children to bed hungry. Can you imagine having to look your hungry child in the eye, and have no way to provide food for them?

We are thanking God for the roof over our heads, the food in our fridge, our healthy children, the health insurance that comes via my employment, and another year to spend with our parents that are still living.

Life could be worse, and I am thankful for what we have.

We have never spent much for Christmas anyway, and most of the gifts given are things I make. My family lives here with the exception of my younger daughter and my grandchildren, but they're coming in for the month of December. My family visits each other and shares meals for the holidays, so nothing's changing there.

Due to financial circumstances we are not able to give as much to Angel Tree, the Rescue Mission, or Operation Christmas Child this year and that really hurts.

It won't change anything in terms of getting together and enjoying our extended family, but it may temper the obscene amount of money spent and gifts that are typically given by my in-laws.

My family and I all live close to each other so we don't have to worry about any travel expenses. However, with the economic crisis at hand, I am planning on spending more time with my family for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. I plan to go out less this holiday with my friends and instead, hang out more with my family at home this holiday season.

We're celebrating my wonderful DH's return from Iraq ... by spending 10 days in Hawaii. We planned this trip months and months ago, and have saved for it.

It looks like I'll be getting the Christmas I always wanted....... not a lot of gifts, just family, friends, food and fun.

Sweet. That's Great!

Same here. we're cutting back on the gifts out of choice not necessity.
Think things will be much better.

Personally, my favorite holiday is Thanksgiving, followed closely by Easter.

Well, I am not happy about the fact that our local homeless shelter is filling up quick, but it does provide more opportunites for witnessing when my Sunday school class feeds them breakfast on Saturdays or Thanksgiving dinner.

our church is more involved in helping out people in the community. My family is fine. We just get presents for the 2 little grandkids so we don't spend a fortune.

It won't affect us at all. God is still good, and still worthy to be praised and celebrated!

My family will get together as always, and celebrate those special days as always. That won't change no matter how much or how little we can spend on the fluff. That's really only a side dish to the celebration anyway. We've gone through times with hardly anything at Christmas, and times with so much it was almost embarrassingly. We get together and celebrate Jesus and family no matter what state the economy(or our wallet) is in.

Praise God!!! Thank your husband for me please and also thank you!

I don't see much different for us on T-Day, but Christmas will be a lot less spending on gifts. We did away with santa a few years ago and have been slowly weaning the kids away from gifts towards the real reason to celebrate. I'm laid off thanksgiving week and Christmas week.

The biggest change this year for the holidays is my mother-in-law passed away earlier this year and she won't be with us.

We will spend Thanksgiving day at my sisters just like every other year. We are very thankful for the jobs both my husband and I have. My husband lost a job so we know what it is like to be without one during the holidays and are very thankful to have them.

We will spend about the same amount on gifts this year. I had forgot that my husband had money taken out of his paycheck each week until we got a letter stating how much we would get and I was pleasantly surprised. The money taken out wasn't missed at all obviously but it did add up for us.

We will probably have to settle on a Charley Brown Christmas tree.

Good grief!!!

Didn't read the thread, but to the OP: It won't have any effect at all. The economic "crisis" hasn't affected anyone in my family by one nickle. I also get a $1 raise after Jan. 1st. Praise God for providing

My husband is not working, but not for a normal reason. Part of our income is replaced by disability and car insurance right now. God has been more than faithful and we have not done without anything we needed.

How do I feel about this Thanksgiving? Well...thankful! Very, very thankful. It's been a good year.

quote:

We'll go to my moms' as usual, as will my siblings and a couple people who have nowhere to go. It'll be a wonderful time. We all pitch in for the meal, so no one has too much work to do. Even better, no one watches football in my family.

quote:

Oh yeah. It's been a full year. We completed our family with our last baby. My husband was in a horrible car accident 4 months ago. My brother came back to Christ after years as a prodigal. My sister, who has been trying to have a baby for a couple years, is now expecting. We have much to be thankful for.

Our extended family is not doing the present thing as big this year, and we also cut back some last year. That's more than okay. Holidays are about family (and food! LOL), not stuff.
