Hi All, It's easy to follow news on the Rep and Dem campaigns... that's what the media does. I remember the Perot campaign got a good bit of attention too. I'll admit I know very little about the 2008 independent candidate- even if he's still in the race or not. I have to think he is, or the media would have pushed for who he was endorsing and that have made the news. Another really close bunch of polling right before, and a 'surprise' withdrawl from the race and endorsement of someone else... do the polls even consider the independents? I would, but I'm never drawn to researching someone who doesn't seek to say much of anything, or be visible or heard yet wants to represent me as my president. Thanks.

I think it is a shame the way our political process has evolved. We Americans have become convinced that: 1. There are only two viable political parties in this country. 2 It takes a lot of money to get elected, let alone for a political party to get its message out. IMO if indpendents are serious about politics they need to look back at the history of how our founding fathers got the word out. From what little I have read so far, it seems that in the past, politicians ran for office by writing letters to friends and supporters who in turn wrote to their friends, and even had discussions with them. It didn't take a whole lot of money, just a lot of people who aggreed with the canidate and felt that he was the best person for the job. I quess what I am saying is, until indpendent parties are taken seriously, they need to be more imaginative, serious, and willing to get their message out. They need to be more convincing in their stand in order to sway politicians locked into the two party system to leave their party so they will better be able to vote for what they really believe in, rather than what their party tells them to believe in. I am not talking about making headlines in order to get free publicity. I am talking about a lot of hard work, over a long period of time. Quite frankly I believe we should go back and heed the warning about political parties that George Washington gave in his farewell address, and just find the best man /woman for the job. However, our chances of doing that are presently slim to none. Rant over.
