Given the recent news of Finland's 2nd school shooting this year (you read it correctly: 2nd ), I'm wondering if there will be an increasing phenomenon where on-campus gun violence will no longer be strictly an American socio-pathology, especially with the advent of the internet?*

*Canada had a couple, as well as Germany, and Japan wouldn't be too far behind had it not been for its strict gun control laws, i.e. a disgruntled youth's recent knifing rampage.

I think the American media's glorification of violence as a means of solving problems has a little bit to do with that but IMO what trumps even that is a person's choice to give into despair and take their inner rage out on others.

I don't think that we're ever going to be rid of these types of headlines unfortunately no matter what "control" persons or governments try to put in place.

society is more complex, differing cultures are clashing even in remote areas, violence does seem to be on the increase globally, populations have grown enormously, common respect for others is less and less, and i'm sure thousands of other reasons could be given, but the lack of Love, as referenced God, is pretty much what it boils down to in the end analysis

Ashas been noted, there are many reasons why our society is plagued by senseless, violent acts. The media has a part. It provides the medium in which we consume information that frames how we believe, it shapes our attitude and provides stimulus to form our values. Ultimately, the media shapes the way we we think. Combine this with a growing sense of isolation among people. We have developed countless ways to communicate with each other, yet we know each other less and less. And what do all of us, deep down, long for? To be loved. To know that someone out there cares for us.

While we tend to want to blame the media, the bullies, and any other external factor we can for why people do what they do, ultimately it comes back down to us. These hurting souls that hurt others come from homes where eith no one recognizes the anger building inside, or they encourage it. So many of the kids who act out in this way are screaming for attention, primarily from parents. But, far too many parents are busy chasing the high or the dream (or both). We are the solution to this problem. Why do we keep looking to entities such as the government to fix it?
