If not anger than what emotion? I myself wonder this. I certainly feel convicted when I give into something that has tripped me up for what feels like forever.

If I give into something that is spur of the moment, not thought about, just happened in the course of the day, then I just ask forgiveness and go on. Maybe that particular sin will be an issue in my life again, maybe not. Still the conviction is much "lighter" kwim?

But, if I give into something that I have been struggling with, then the conviction is like a sledgehammer and the contemplation afterwards much more intense.

I do think I am not guilty of feeling false guilt, and I know upon confession we are forgiven, and I even know that God is not angry, but I have to wonder about the difference in experiences. Is it just the extra time we have struggled with the sin? Is it because we rightly have a fear of God in us?

I think it is the differences in experiences. I know that it's different with all infractions that we commit throughout our day. I've seen it posted other places about committing a sin, asking God for forgiveness and making a conscious effort into not committing that sin again. If we've asked for forgiveness, yet keep committing the same sin, I think that frustrates God in ways we can't comprehend.
I can't begin to describe what other emotions we possibly feel. I know I feel extreme remorse when I do something that's not Christ-like. I also remember that I'm just beginning to explore my life as a Christian and that we all stumble along the way. It's a path that is rocky and full of snares. We are fallible and God knows this. It all goes back to whether or not we're sorry for what we've done and if we make an honest effort not to do it again.
