Is there a verse in the Bible which says something like:

"The Lord inhabits the praises of His people."

I awoke this morning with this thought on my mind and did a search on Biblegateway but could not come up with anything.

Any help appreciated if these words come to mind for anyone.

I found it - it's Psalm 22:3

Psalm 145:21 and 148:14 echo that sentiment.

Read what Matt. Henry says about this verse, it is superb!!

hereunto, v. 3-5. Though God did not hear him, did not help him, yet, 1. He will think well of God: "But thou art holy, not unjust, untrue, nor unkind, in any of thy dispensations. Though thou dost not immediately come in to the relief of thy afflicted people, yet though lovest them, art true to thy covenant with them, and dost not countenance the iniquity of their persecutors, Hab. 1:13. And, as thou art infinitely pure and upright thyself, so thou delightest in the services of thy upright people: Thou inhabitest the praises of Israel; thou art pleased to manifest thy glory, and grace, and special presence with thy people, in the sanctuary, where they attend thee with their praises. There thou art always ready to receive their homage, and of the tabernacle of meeting thou hast said, This is my rest for ever.’’ This bespeaks God’s wonderful condescension to his faithful worshippers—(that, though he is attended with the praises of angels, yet he is pleased to inhabit the praises of Israel), and it may comfort us in all our complaints—that, though God seem, for a while, to turn a deaf ear to them, yet he is so well pleased with his people’s praises that he will, in due time, give them cause to change their note: Hope in God, for I shall yet praise him. Our Lord Jesus, in his sufferings, had an eye to the holiness of God, to preserve and advance the honour of that, and of his grace in inhabiting the praises of Israel notwithstanding the iniquities of their holy things. 2. He will take comfort from the experiences which the saints in former ages had of the benefit of faith and prayer (v. 4, 5): "Our fathers trusted in thee, cried unto thee, and thou didst deliver them; therefore thou wilt, in due time, deliver me, for never any

Just spiritual food for thought, have a wonderful day.

I didn't think that was what it said, so I looked. It actually says,
quote:

Yet You are holy, O You who are enthroned upon the praises of Israel. [NASB]

The KJV is more like what you wrote, but it also says "Israel":
quote:

But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.

I have heard this quoted as "praises of His people" before, and perhaps some translation says it that way, but I have never read it, if there is one. I think it is important to remember that the Psalm is attributed to David, and it certainly does follow known incidents in David's life, so when David wrote it, he intended the meaning to be that G-d inhabits the praises of Israel.

This is also important, because the same Book says to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. When anyone prays for the peace of Jerusalem, they are praying for the return of Messiah, because Israel will not have peace until Messiah returns.

Psalms 22:3 וְאַתָּה קָדֹושׁH6918 יֹושֵׁב תְּהִלֹּותH8416 יִשְׂרָאֵלH3478
Psalms 22:3 But thou art holyH6918, O thou that inhabitestH3427 [H8802] the praisesH8416 of IsraelH3478.

(sorry, this wont format for proper Hebrew, and my Hebrew interlinear is on another machine so I will also cite the KJV with Strong's numbers+tense mood and voice)

(Psalms 22:3) (22:4) Yet Thou art holy, O Thou that art enthroned upon the praises of Israel. (Translation: Jewish Publication Society)

Israel is specifically mentioned, so what you read would have to have been "the praises of His people Israel" I couldn't find it expressed exactly that way even in Brenton's translation of The Septuagint, which is where I thought it might have been.

I agree that the intent is definitely that He inhabits the praises of Israel...though I would suggest that it could be read as all of HIS people, which would include Christians.

I also agree that we are to pray for the peace of Jerusalem, and that until mâshîyach returns there will be no peace, but I would add in this world, not just in Israel.

Hey, Aard! Welcome to Crosswalk!

I enjoyed what you wrote. I would also add that those who purposely thrust Israel out or who refuse to admit that the Scriptures clearly say that believers are grafted into Israel, so they cannot stand alone and still be of the olive tree, have a rough row to hoe when they stand before the Judge. Some do this in ignorance, but some do it willfully.

The Bible has something to say about those who speak against Israel.

Sha'alu Shalom Yerushalayim!

Isn't it wonderful that the Holy One - blessed be He cares about His People the Jews!

And so when His people are at the Western Wall praying for the peace of Jerusalem and chanting His praises and pleading for Messiah to come - He is indeed dwelling in those praises?
You mean He hasn't abandoned the Jews?

Indeed!

But when I glanced back at my post (#7), I couldn't help but think about what I, too, am going to face when I stand before the Righteous Judge!

If you mean past times how you honored or did not honor Israel and have repented of that and now honor Israel and the People, than you have been cleansed and are not in the catagory of being judged.

We all understand the Bible differently.

I believe I will be judged for many things when I stand before Him, or why would I be judged at all? I know that it is so easy to see another's sin, long before I see my own.

Also, I have always honored Israel -- even as a tiny child. I was just thinking about my judging others for not honoring Israel while I likely have other things in my own life that I shall have to face.

Yes I do agree with you in that we will have to give an account for every unprofitable word we have spoken and just there I no doubt have volumes. But as for being judged ... I think we will find how much we have fallen short and how much we could have had. I think we will find out how we have broken our Father's heart. But thankfully the blood of Yeshua has declaired us righteous before the Father. We will stand before the bimah which is not a seat of judgement but of rewards. Our sadness will be IMO the rewards we so easily gave up or lost out on.
A wonderful book that puts the whole thing in perspective for me is Edge of Eternity by Randy Alcorn. It is a fiction book but I think the author has a pretty good handle on the life we live in light of eternity.
