My father used to always tell me about a passage that went something like this:

'The words that come out of our mouth falls back on our ears and reinforces the feeling of our heart."

Or something along those lines.... I've asked my father to find it and he's not exactly sure where it is... maybe one of you would know.

Thanks!

I do not recall anything like that in scripture. One clue is the last four words. "Feeling of our heart" is unlike the biblical concept of the heart. It is a Western idea, not Jewish, that the heart represents human feelings. In the Bible, the heart is less emotion and more the will and intellect.

Matthew 15:10 When He had called the multitude to Himself, He said to them, "Hear and understand: 11 Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man." 12 Then His disciples came and said to Him, "Do You know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?" 13 But He answered and said, "Every plant which My heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted. 14 Let them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind, both will fall into a ditch." 15 Then Peter answered and said to Him, "Explain this parable to us." 16 So Jesus said, "Are you also still without understanding? 17 Do you not yet understand that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and is eliminated? 18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man. 19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. 20 These are the things which defile a man, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile a man."

Matthew 12:34 Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. 35 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. 36 But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. 37 For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned."

I see where your father got his thoughts, but they're not scripture, just based on scriputure.

I am pretty sure that it isn't in the Bible, but it certainly sounds like like it could be.

I used some pretty effective search software but couldn't find anything close any where.

"Word of faith" teachers say that since "faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God", we have to speak the word of God concerning things we want or don't want and the "word of God" that we speak with our mouth goes into our ears and our faith is built up by it.
The problem with that is that we as people are liable to take that and leave God's will for our lives completely out of it.. and just go for our will in all things, claiming our will to be God's will.

I don't know if that is what you are think of or not.

I think this is much like rev Tevia in Fiddler on the Roof saying, "As the good book says, . . ." I'm sure your Father is an honorable man, but we sometimes think we know the Scriptures better than we do.

If "in the Bible, the heart is less emotion and more the will and intellect", then what is emotion? This is just a question that came to me when I read this post. In the Bible, what is emotion expressed as? It's not referenced as the soul, is it?

Matt 12:33 - 34 (ESV) 33“Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad, for the tree is known by its fruit. 34You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

Could this be the verse

This tends to happen a lot in that someone hears what a preacher says and they think it is out of the Bible. Most often it happens because the person has not read the Scriptures so they tent to believe what preachers say. This is why Wycliffe and Tyndale risked their lives to translate the Bible into English language. They wanted common people to be able to read the Scriptures for themselves so they could tell if what was being taught from pulpit was true. I also searched the KJVA which has apocryphal books but could not find that wording.

If memory serves my, it's the "inward parts" or stomach, I'm not sure. But emotions are not given a lot of weight in spiritual matters since they are so fickle.
