http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081011/ap_on_re_eu/eu_obit_haider Has anyone been hearing much about this controversial Austrian right-wing politician's fatal car crash, let alone his then-outspoken policies (regarding immigration, etc...)?

Yes..he was speeding 2x the legal limit etc.. As a christian I sure cannot make sarcasm about death of any person knowing what Scriptures tells us about eternal destinations.. I was reading few Italian persons put on paper their feelings about his passing. I do get Italian ways of expressiveness in place in myself, as familiar... it goes something like: "If God is not a Nazist, Haider is in hell".. What I do know is that he had nazi standings, anti-semitism, xenophobia etc andhis party was the 4th raking in Austria..I suppose popular and with adherents, followers with same mindset etc

Has anyone been hearing much about this controversial Austrian right-wing politician's fatal car crash, let alone his then-outspoken policies (regarding immigration, etc...)? As an Austrian, I could hardly avoid hearing about it . He was a politician whose food and drink was provocation, controversy and playing on people's fears (e.g. of losing their jobs through lax immigration laws). A lot of it was deeply distasteful but his popularity was kept up to a large part by his challenge of a tired and complacent political situation where the two largest parties shared all the spoils. Support for the right wing has been going up and down hugely during the last years and tends to depend on how disaffected the voters are with the political establishment. I never considered voting for him or anybody from his party but never thought that they were a modern incarnation of the Nazi party either. Not sure... did you want to know anything more specific? I'd be happy to try and answer. I guess it's more like the general political, social, economic, and if possible, spiritual atmosphere with contemporary Austria as of late--especially if Haider seems to be symptomatic of the aforementioned issues, in this 9-11 age.
