$ 100,000 a year to guard a dog? Where do I apply? I'll even pick up the poop! 
BTW, you think the doggie guard is armed? Trained in martial arts to fend off all those gigilo canine gold diggers?

Yes, I would love that job too, especially since I'm a lover of dogs and cats.
Anyway, who do you think gets the money if the dog kicks the bucket before his money runs out? And HOW do you spend that much on a dog anyway?

Sorry, I don't agree with it at all. If I have a 12 million estate, I shoudl be able to do what I want with it and if I would rather give my cat money than my family, I should be allowed that. Her grandkids must have done something to make her really angry if she would rather give it all to her dog than them. I don't necesarily think she was mentally unfit either--many accounts say how much she loved that dog and did more than most people would for any one animal, so it isn't far fetched what she did. It is just the kids who thought they would get money that would get them set for life and then bitter that they didn't get it. I don't think that just because you are family you deserve a cut of the estate. I am curious why she cut her family out, though. I still don't think they shoudl get a dime.

You know, this is the first thing I thought when I read the story too. I disagree with the family getting money when it goes against the will. I disagree with a judge being able to overturn someone's will, period, but especially to overturn it and award the money to folks who were purposefully not to get anything.
BUT, I do think leaving that money to a dog is crazy, so I can understand the judge saying she was mentally unfit to make that decision. I just think that the judge should have awarded the money to some charity or charities, and not to family members who are only bitter and greedy to be suing for this money in the first place.

From what I remember about the "Queen of Mean," her family may deserve a medal on top of that money for putting up with her...

Oh great here comes the nit-picking on such an unimportant topic.
I know who she was. I still think she has the right to do what she wishes with her money, whether her family feels they "deserve it" or not. Just because they are her family does not mean they are entitled to a paycheck when she dies. It seems to me that if one was not angry and bitter they would not care to take the time and recources to bring the matter to court, they would let it go. Anyway, maybe I should have put in my opinion after the comment in the previous post.

If I recall correctly, Conrad Hilton left the bulk of his estate to his own charitable foundation, but his family contested the will and won.
I really do think a dog is a better heir than Paris Hilton....
