We all have spiritual gifts--what is yours-and how did you discover it? How do you use it in your personal ministry?

I believe empathy is my spiritual gift. I discovered it just a few weeks ago. We had a lesson on spiritual gifts at my church, and one of the activities we did was to tell what we thoughts others' gifts were (since its hard to realize in your self at times) and thats what they suggested as mine. And after thinking about it it makes sense. I really feel the pain of others and really want to help them feel better. I use it by listening to others, praying for them, and allowing God to use to me help ease their pain.

I've taken the spiritual gift tests several times over the years, I've always come up with Prophecy and Edification as the strongest, and then Mercy as a secondary. (*note -- prophecy in this capacity is not like OT prophecies/prophets, it's one who discerns and proclaims the truth, like a strong teacher). The Lord also gave me the ability to sing for him, that's another ministry I've always been involved in.

I've been told mine is helps. I'm not really sure though. I've never had a really good class on spiritual gifts, so I can't really discern my fully I don't think. I've felt guilt about that at times, knowing God wants us to know our own spiritual gifts and use them. So I have started to make a conscious effort to exercise a gift of helps; even if it's not MY spiritual gift, it's doing work in God's name for His Glory.

Mine is prophecy, which as Rachel describes is being forth-telling of God's Word- not fore-telling events. When a test doesn't have prophecy as a gift I usually rate high in discernment, wisdom, knowledge, and exhortation with all of them being pretty equal. But my gift really is prophecy and not those other things. They are a part of it, to be sure, but they don't speak to the calling I have in my life.

exhortation That's what I meant, not edification, although they are related.

Mine is teaching, giving, and encouragement. I generally use all of these quite often and without realizing it. I think that is one of the things about spiritual gifts. We shouldn't have to think about using them, but they are a part of us and we use them without thinking about it. God has given us these gifts and we need to use them, but it isn't like we should have to consciencously (sp?) think about it all the time.

Oh.....FUN subject...and one that is very close to my heart. Nothing burns me more then churches that put people into ministry or work tasks WITHOUT knowing what people's gifts are. Ok, now I'm off my soap box. My top gifts are always administration, intercessory prayer and shepharding.

My top gifts are always administration, intercessory prayer and shepharding. It burns me more when churches don't allow people to try new ministries. I mean it seems that the same people do the same things never letting others try to find their gift. Sometimes it takes awhile to figure out where God means you to be and what His purpose is for you. Now that I am off MY soap box--how do you or your church use your gifts?
