Saw the "Mighty Kingsmen" and was highly disappointed to find them singing with tracks. The first three songs featured a harmonica. Don't know about most people, but a harmonica does nothing for me. I just can't picture the old Blackwoods or Statesmen with a harmonica. Vocally, the guys were great, although I wish Ray had gotten in some more really low notes (and sung The Old Ship of Zion). Perhaps the lack of a piano player is a monetary issue, but if the Anchormen can afford one of the best piano players in SGM, you would think the Kingsmen could too. Hopefully things will improve for this former powerhouse quartet.

They're currently trying out pianists, then after that will work on getting a bassist. Brandon will return to drums once that happens.

If so, you will remember that the harmonica was a staple instrument with the Kingsmen Band for many years. Gary Dillard 1974-1989, then Randy Miller 1993-1998. The harmonica is a common used instrument on southern gospel albums these days. I think you need to get out of the 60's. I have been a big Kingsmen fan for many years, and I don't believe they WANT to be the Blackwoods or the Statesmen. FORMER powerhouse group? My friend, the Kingsmen of today, is still a powerhouse group with the lineup of Reese, Reed, Hughes and Hutson. The guys told me, that they will hire a piano player.

I agree that the Kingsmen do not want to be the Blackwoods or the Statesmen, though these are indeed two awesome groups but I really think that the Kingsmen just want to be THE KINGSMEN!!!!! As for singing with tracks....for the Kingsmen this is indeed something different but still they are not the only group to do this, just seems strange as they are best known for their band. Money IS NOT the issue in hiring s piano player! As for a "former powerhouse group"........find me one better who has been singing longer than The Kingsmen....I think not but this is indeed just my opinion as your is your opinion.

I'm pretty sure with the Kingsmen it was done tastefully. As one poster said they've had the best in the business with the Beaver Dillard and Randy Miller. They still are every b it the powerhouse too.

Agreed tenorsister. I saw them fairly recently and I've seen them with the band as well in the past. It is different, but they sure do still sound good.

You can do so much with tracks these days encores and so on there's no shame seems like in using them if you had to.

I agree if you have the right equipment you can do alot with tracks now. Also if you have ever been in a group you know how hard it is to keep a band together.

With most groups I kinda like tracks better, at least the drums don't overpower the group singing or the piano player. Brandon happens to be one of the better drummers who don't overpower the rest of the group. But there are some groups that use tracks to drown out the vocals.

nothing wrong with tracks but I prefer a live band. live isnt live fully if using something pre-recorded. IMO I go to the three best live albums ever heard. Come Fly With The McGruders Alive and Kickin by Crabb Family Live at University of Alabama by Kingsmen all with bands and all three simply the best can get live album wise
