I need a new laptop for college. Yet I cannot decide between a good MacBook and a MacBook Pro. Now, I've heard that the MacBook Pro computers are not the most reliable, and they have a hefty price tag. MacBooks, on the other hand, seem pretty good, but I hate the glossy screens and I'm not sure if their processing power is good enough.

The laptop must meet the following requirements:

• Able to run Final Cut Pro 2 adequately

• Able to last for at least 4 years in college (I don't want a machine that's going to be obsolete)

• Generally durable

I guess I can put up with a glossy screen, even though they are annoying.

Can anyone give me some advice?

Any computer should last you four years nowadays since the hardware is so much improved. I don't really know the difference between the mac and the macbook pro but macs have a rep for quality.

I like gaming some and the Macbook Pro was the one out of the two that had a decent video card. I don't own either, but IF I were looking, I'd try to get the Pro for my needs/wants. :)
If Final Cut can utilize a good graphics card, then the Pro would be your better option also.

Are you sure it's got to be Final Cut? I use Final Cut every day and I'd recommend you check out Adobe Premier if it's an option. I've only used Premiere a bit, but what I've seen is MUCH smoother and more reponsive than Final Cut. The audio waveform drawing on Final Cut is a joke and will bring the whole thing to a complete crawl.
