Effective marketing starts with an understanding of fulfilling other's need, from the bottom up. And, understanding other's needs, and wants, comes from the ability to ask effective, probing questions that will naturally lead the prospect to making the decision for your product/service.

I don't know what type of marketing you're speaking of, however, the closer you can start to where the action is - customer interaction - the more you'll understand marketing concepts and ideaology, therby being more valuable in the marketing department.

I started as a down-the-street salesman selling overhead projector systems. After several upward moves through the management ranks, moved into Director of U.S. Marketing for a large, international corporation. My point is that an understanding of the wants, needs gathered through understanding actual customer requirements led to my understanding of the overall marketing process and being able to be of higher service to my company and customers.

I would advise that you set specific goals for what you want to earn, where you want to live, how you will lie your life, et al, and with specific time frames to be achieved. Read, learn and absorb all that you can, talk to as many people in the sales and marketing profession as you can, and most importantly, continue to give gratitude to God for His walking with you.
