I just want to be completely honest and seek help or opinions about my biggest fear.

I am a saved Christian, I can preach, have witnessed, etc, etc.

However, I am simply very scared that when I die there will be absolutely nothing.
No consciousness, just like going to sleep before you start dreaming. This is also what
many scientists say happens after you die. You simply cease to exist period.

The thought of this is a terribly scary..... "scenario".

On what basis do you say this; was your "decision" the result of emotional manipulation or familiy history? I am NOT saying you are not saved. Just trying to get at the roots of your fear.

Don't worry. If that happens, you won't care.

without the revelation of Christ, that is all you have... wishful thinking with a faith label.
I believed at a very very young age, but when I was 14, I had the revelation.
not sure if everyone has the same experience, but I do know Jesus talks about it in the gospels.

and if it helps you any, I was dead for about 20 minutes when I was 17...... consciousness does NOT end at death.

Are you saying your brain was deprived of O2 for 20 minutes?

You must surely believe in ever-lasting life if you are saved. As Christ defeated death, so will you because he has given you this power. You should go back and read the book of John and study some of Christ's teachings on the bread and water of life. I pray that you will be delivered from this fear and that you will have a firm grasp on God's promise.
Always remember that doubt is a tool that Satan loves to manipulate.
Be strong and pray. God will put this fear to rest. We all struggle with uncertainty at one time or another but eternal life is promised and you should never doubt the word of God.

Peace be with you

If you believe that you simply cease to exist when you die...then what exactly is it that you believe Christ has saved you from?

Peace

1Corinthians 15:50-"What I am saying, brothers and sisters, is this: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51 Listen, I will tell you a mystery! We will not all die, but we will all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53 For this perishable body must put on imperishability, and this mortal body must put on immortality. 54 When this perishable body puts on imperishability, and this mortal body puts on immortality, then the saying that is written will be fulfilled: "Death has been swallowed up in victory."

I like the sound of Victory as saints! Amen?

There's a chorus by Edward Mote which comes to mind on reading your thread RefinersMetal:

......On Christ the solid rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand........

The rest of The Solid Rock can be read here: The Solid Rock (Chorus)

This chorus is based on Scripture and sounds like what you are presently trusting in is 'sinking sand'. Don't put your trust in what the scientists say. Trust God's Word first and foremost. That is something of what you are called to do as a Christian.

Hi RefinersMetal,

I think it's time for a reality check. We all need it from time to time - me included.

You need to ask yourself: What do I really believe?

You say that you're a Christian, that you can preach, (are you a preacher? pastor? etc.) and you have witnessed.

So at some stage or other in your life you did believe in something. If this something was based on the Word of God as taught in the Bible, then it is possible that the devil is tempting you and confusing you to throw you off track as it were.

The closer we get to God the harder the devil works to lead you astray. So you should be proud that he's spending time working on you.

Resist him with prayer. Ask God to help you and trust Him. And He will remove this "scary scenario" from your mind.

Praying for you.

God bless.

John 5:21 For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will. 22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son: 23 That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him. 24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. 25 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. 26 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself; 27 And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man. 28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, 29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

God's word tell us that there is life after our physcial death. If there was nothing I think He would have told us so. God doesn't lie. If He says there is life after death, there is.

John 8:51 Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.

Romans 5:21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 6:22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. 23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

In fact God's word reassures us over and over again that there is life after death.

1 Corinthians 15:51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
Why would God's word tell us this if it were not so? I strongly suggest reading all of 1 Corinthians 15. Jesus didn't overcome death for nothing. Yes our physcial bodys may die, but we also have spirital bodys, (God's word tells us that also), and they pass from death to life. And boy, what a life!

1 Corinthians 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

Revelation 21:18 And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass. 19 And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald; 20 The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst. 21 And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.

John 14:2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

So your biggest fear is laid to rest by God's promises. Don't fear. Trust in the Lord.
God Bless.

1 John 4:18

"There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love."

Refiners,

I've had many, many fears in my life, but just as of this last year I've started to experience this verse. I can let my fears defeat me or I can stand on Jesus, the Word, that casts down all my fears!

so all of your neurons fired and your brain went into survival mode. same thing happens to some people in high G training to become pilots. I have a friend who was electrocuted and was clinically dead for 10 minutes. he said there was nothing. this is all anecdotal evidence.

Your friend may have been at death's door. Even "clinically dead". But the Bible tells us that once it is appointed to man to die. So if they're truely dead (the spirit having left the body) how is it that we are able to "bring them back". "Clinical death" is only what we can see as death, but when the spirit leaves the body, we don't truely know. So the fact that your friend saw nothing does nothing to discount God's word.

Hence me saying anecdotal evidence. I do not believe any near death experience at all to prove or disprove the existence of god.

REFINRSMETAL,
You say most scientists say, etc. Well most scientists are not
christians and are biased against christianity so you cant go by that.
You need to also look at whats happening in the middle east today.
All the events happening around ISRAEL are foretold in the BIBLE
which confirms that the BIBLE is true.
You need to read CS LEWIS MERE CHRISTIANITY and his other books.
He was an atheist and a very intelligent college professor in ENGLAND
who became a christian.
