I love good gospel music! I just don't understand why people like Mike and Kelly Bowling aren't at NQC. I just looked on their schedule and saw they were not there and it really upset me. I want to see the best groups out there when I attend NQC and it seems like they are. They are one of my favorites at least. There story is in Singing News and I just read where there song was number one. Does anyone know why they are not going to be there this year? I try to see them every chance I get. I missed Bill Gaither's group for a few years and now I guess I am going to miss another good group. What do we do to get them back? I use to see them there all the time.

It is probably their decision not to attend NQC. A lot of excellent groups are not on the main stage at NQC but they still attend and have a booth there so they can greet their fans. There are a lot of opportunities for groups to sing in various show cases.

Hmmm....I was almost positive they had been scheduled to sing mainstage one of those nights, but maybe I'm wrong.

How can they have a reunion without Mike & Kelly?????????????????????

Well here's the thing: I know Mike Bowling Group had been on mainstage - but maybe they haven't been invited since the group was revamped? I still thought they were scheduled earlier. Maybe I'm missing something...

I remember seeing the Mike Bowling Group on main stage. They had time to sing two songs. I know Mike & Kelly had booth space last year but I don't believe they were scheduled to sing.

Well, the Collingsworth family still isn't on mainstage, despite Kim's top 5 nomination and the group's top 5 mixed group nomination (I think it was top 5). There are always a few that make us scratch our heads.

Yes, that is true, Daniel. I'm still "scratching my head" about The Melody Boys Quartet of Little Rock, AR not being on the main stage after many years of being there. Please do not tell me it is personel changes...other groups have had more, and they are still on the main stage. Gerald Williams is in the Hall of Fame.

I don't understand this. Mike and Kelly seem to be having a great year. I think the talent booker's for NQC stay a few years behind on "what" and "who" people want to see. It's great to have the same old same old, but that will never keep new people satisfied. I have been "bitten" with this music. I got intrigued through hearing songs on the radio. Mike and Kelly were great live and so were the Isaacs. Are the Isaacs at NQC? So Mike and Kelly are NOT there? They would be great at NQC. Their daughter is amazing too.

The Isaacs seem to be off and on. They are back on this year (Friday night).

Doesn't the Board of Directors determine who is invited to be on main stage? Who is current on the Board of Directors?
Maybe Mike & Kelly wasn't invited because of the afternoon show case with the Crabb Reunion. I didn't see anyother of the Crabb groups on main stage this year.

Hope so, especially Collingsworths!
But after Kim's top 5 pianist nomination last year, I really thought the board would have invited her last year. I know they did let her do one song ("How Great Thou Art") before the program started one evening--that was nice.
But I doubt anyone could blame them for skipping a day or two of NQC for a Homecoming date. If they're prominent enough to both get top 5 nominations in the SN fan awards and a spot on the Homecoming tour, and NQC still doesn't invite them, I can't blame them for leaving early.
Sorry to get everyone off topic here!

I'm with Gayla. I can't for the life of me understand why they didn't invite The Melody Boys back this year. They've been there since Memphis! That is too unreal to me. It is like taking off the Inspirations, Hoppers, Kingsmen, and a few others I could name. These groups are the main ones who have stuck to their roots. It is so wrong to take this away from our legends who are and have paved the way for many groups, just to make room for groups who "just started" under a different name! Go figure???????
To answer a question I read here, YES, they have a board of directors who decide who to invite and who not to invite. I still don't understand why some groups get to sing 2 or 3 nights, but yet they so many GOOD groups off!

It's all politics as to who gets to sing. The answer to Judy's question about who gets to sing more than once is that the NQC board members. Want to know who is on the board? Check out the schedule and see who has the most performances, and the most time during those performances.

Maybe the board should consider offering a fan selected artist spot on the main stage. Each year the fan's choose one artist that is not appearing on the main stage to have an appearance. But, then again that could turn into an ugly competition.

I'm thinking they need to change the name of NQC to maybe, National Gospel Convention. This was a "quartet" convention, now it seems to be an anything convention.

That could be a really simple process; they can announce a nominations period where anyone can name nominations, and then they can post a poll with the top 20 nominations on their website.
You know, on the flip side of your observation, I could see where that might be really fun.
