My wife, my 2-year-old daughter and I went to the showcase Saturday, mainly for the Crabb family. We had a great time. We saw some groups sing in a couple of places around the building before the Crabb Family; everyone sounded great and the sound is excellent at every location at NQC.

I couple of things I would like to see change though--I think that they should only charge showcase tickets for the events on the main stage, because the groups singing on the other stages are mainly up-and-comers who need the exposure. Those concerts had a lot of empty seats, and possibly more people would have gone if it was free.

Also, after the Crabb concert, we wanted to walk around the exhibit hall, and they would not let us! They said you needed a night concert ticket. I guess they figure the groups can do without the money that we would have spent at their product tables. So next year, why not let everybody into the exhibit hall? There are no shows going on, just plenty of opportunities for people to spend their money on food and music.

So, what do you guys think? What changes would you like to see made?

Well, anyhow , they don't open the doors to the Exhibition area until 4:00pm. So you wouldn't be able to go in there during the showcase hours.

We stayed around until the doors were open and people were going in. We were not allowed in because we did not have a night concert ticket.

There are a lot of artist that dont show up till about 5-10mins till 4pm. The others get there about 3:30 and they need time to uncover the booth or sweep their carpet, etc. So technically you would still be walking around or going over to get food which I recall they had some food in the north wing? I wasnt out there much. We went to the Crabb Reunion then rushed back to get the booth set up..so I think the main reason is the doors dont open till 4pm and its so the artist have time to number one set up and number two just plain get there. Some of them dont come till very last min I noticed.

If they had let you in the exhibit hall, you couldn't have bought anything, have seen or talked to anyone or much of anything else because no one would have been in there. It would have been deserted. The artists/booth holders are out doing their show cases, interviews, sleeping, resting, shopping, eating, etc., until pretty much 15-20 minutes before the doors open. Just enough time to get to their booths and uncover their product. Also, they can't just let people go in with all of that product left unattended. Additionally, if one goes in after a showcase and hangs around awile they could enter Freedom Hall later when it opens without having to buy a ticket for the evening concert. Sneaking in the back-way for free, so to speak.

Heather, you posted while I was typing. I agree with you.

I believe the showcases in the South Wing were FREE, at least they were the first part of the week when we went to them. Showcases in the North Hall and Freedom hall was a charge for them. Usually exhibitors get in showcases with their badges. Guess what, Not with Gaither/Signature Sound, they wanted every dollar they could get and they charged $20.00 for showcases that day even the exhibitors had to pay to see them.

Heather, it was an unexpected pleasure to get to meet you.I had posted about it in another thread, probably the geezer thread. Hope your first experience with a booth at NQC went well. God Bless.

Heard it was great and was almost a full house. Wish we could have been there. I like Dino's piano playing.

I went to the Gaither Vocal Band/Sig Sound, Song of a Lifetime, and Parade of Pianos showcases. Donna went to the Dino Showcase while I checked in at the motel on Thursday. I'm planning to write something up for sgconcerts.com for GVB and Parade of Pianos and I'm hoping Donna will write up Song of a Lifetime. I'll let you know if we get it done!!!

We went to the showcase on Monday and Tuesday. We bought a combo ticket for both days for $15 so that was not bad. However, there were many empty seats and I agree that these groups would have probably gotten more exposure if the showcases were free. The showcases in the south wing were free, but I was more familiar with some of the groups in the east hall, so I was willing to pay. BTW, some of these groups were very good and I can't wait to here more from them.

I was surprised as well that you had to have a ticket to get into the exhibit hall. It did not matter to us because we had tickets to the night concerts anyway, but I was not expecting to have to show my ticket the first day I went into the exhibit hall. Of course, I had never been before and did not realize that you walked from the exhibit hall right into Freedom Hall without having to show your ticket again. I agree that it would be good if they could set it up so that everyone could browse the exhibit hall regardless if they had a ticket to the evening concert, but I'm not sure how this would work because people would then have to wait in line to get between the exhibit hall and Freedom Hall.

During the remodeling the past couple of years you didn't need a ticket to get in the exihibit hall. Previous years you needed the ticket. If you didn't have to have a ticket to get into the exhibit hall it would be difficult to go back & forth to Freedom Hall as they are next to each other. The last couple of years we had to walk around through a tunnel to get to Freedom Hall or walk through the construction of the new exhibit hall. It was a long walk.

I've been attending NQC since 1998. The only years you didn't need a night concert ticket or some sort of pass for the exhibit hall were 2006 and 2007. This was due more to logistics than anything else.

I think it would be good for the exhibit hall to be free. I don't think it would make a great deal sense for NQC's bottom line to make showcases like the Bluegrass event, Dennis Swanberg, Vintage Quartets, etc. free, though. I'd love it, but NQC is a business, after all.
