My son was nominated to represent his High School and I'm hoping someone has an idea.

Thank you Kath. I did a little more in depth research on it and found out a few interesting things.
First, if your child receives this, it's a mass mail out.
Second, it costs quite a bit of money that could be spent on an entire family vacation to Washington, DC
Third, it does not make a difference to place it on your child's resume for college entrance.
The reports from parents on it were that their children had a great time on the trip and did learn a few things, but the opportunities that they had hoped for, for their kids, did not come through.
TAMS, on the other hand is an opportunity for you parents to jump on if the opportunity presents itself. 
If you need to close this thread, it won't hurt my feelings. I found what I was looking for.

My son got the same invitation. Like you, we also found out it's a mass mailing thing and not worthwhile.

It's disappointing. It sounds and looks really good and you feel very honored that your child has been chosen....
Then the truth comes out and it's a let down.
The wording was so sneaky, ya know?

yes it is. When his oldest daughter got it, it sounded good but then, I'm skeptical of those things, but then when we got one for David...

absolutely. And I called the school and told them what I thought of them selling special ed kids' names to these places. I have no idea if they changed their policy though, the next year David went to a work shop.

Good for you! Maybe that shook them up a little to think before they send these things out. You would think with as prestigious sounding as the fliers are, they would know who they were sending them to.
