I really want to get a nursing cover this time, as I really want to be able to comfortably nurse in public. Namely, church. While it won't be a problem for the pastor (my hubby) I don't want to expose myself to the rest of the congregation.

I'm really handy with a sewing machine, so a pattern that would work for that, such as a shawl or the like, I could do.

I don't like the 'apron' type covers. The design just doesn't appeal to me. I really like this, but I wanted to get one that's cotton, so that the poor kid can breathe! I thought of making one, but not sure as to the dimensions.

What sort of nursing covers have you used and liked?

Part of the reason I want to make my own, is that I don't want to broadcast that I am nursing, some of the colors are so loud! But I want more coverage than a shirt, at least at first.

You may get more replies in the "Got Mommy's Milk" thread ... all the gals over there are breastfeeding, and would probably have a bunch of input for you.

I have THIS one and love it. Mine is a different fabric pattern, but it's that exact style.
My mum sewed a second one for me copying that pattern, so I have two and they got used a ton with Judah, and I am planning on using them tons with this one too In fact I just got them washed today!

Kathryn I have seen the 4 in 1 in person and really it's just a poncho with a slightly larger neck hole.

Try looking for poncho patterns and enlarging the neck to a comfortable point?

Someone posted instructions for the "Hooter Hider" the other day. I am planning to try to make one of those.

Kathryn I hemmed a rectangle piece of material and added a strap for around my neck, I didn't like the boning in the other cover so it was super easy to sew! It worked great for me! I think I might try a shawl like Jess's next time.

I have nothing to say about nursing covers, but I wanted to say that I think the girl in the ad kind of looks like you, Jessica (with lighter hair) Of course, I've only seen you in pictures, so I could be waaaay off

Here are the instructions to make a Hooter Hider or the much classier name of Bebe au Lait.

I don't care for those as much. I don't know, feels too much like an apron.

I am considering getting a bella band from ebay and using that postpardum for nursing when I am out. That way belly is covered.
